On the lighter aluminum transfer cases it is easier to leave them together as long as you have a good trans jack and can do it safely. This also kind of can help you reinstall the trans in the clutch too as you have some room and leverage to help line things up a little easier. On some odd weight hanging units I have made a bracket that bolts to the transfer case tail housing and to the jack to help support it.Ryan
