It appears that it worked out the way it was supposed too. That young lad is in for a surprise going through Navy boot camp in Chicago this time of year.Ken Thomas

That's a true statement, Ken! I took the oath on 2/14 and purposely delayed my departure for almost three months to 5/7 and we were still hearing about "snow watch" duty when we arrived, where the trainees manned a snow shovel for three hours at a time, all night long, keeping ahead of the falling snow on the miles and miles of wide side walks at NTC Great Lakes! In May we still were waking to some pretty cold morning musters on the grinder!
Don't tell him this story, M.T.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Don't want to hijack the thread so I'll make this short. My youngest daughter was stationed there in the 90's, boot in Orlando, and related horror stories about their winters. I landed at O'Hare in Dec. of 62 fresh out of boot camp and when I made my way to the door of the aircraft, in full greens and scarf and overcoat, I might as well have been buck naked. It's my opinion that one has to be part Eskimo to live in Chicago in the winter.Ken Thomas

I am with Tech, Rspears and Hoss429. I'd gave a 67 Ford Mustang fastback to a young kid that was pretty mint with one ding and a new motor.
He didn't appreciate it, first he raced it over some speed bumps flipped the motor completely up side down then I help him fix it.
Then a month later he sold it for $300 bucks, he only had it for 2 months.
And I had over $5,000 in the car besides what I had paid for it.
No one appreciates what they don't work for, make him work for it.
I have kicked myself every time I think of it.
