Your right. Earlier I was thinking about the Indy cars and different formula rides. But them are race cars not hot rods! But then again Mr. Force calls his 300 mph plus needle nose slot car a Hot Rod so who am I to make the categories. LOL To ThE fRigE, anyopne else want a cold one while Im up/?Last edited by M.T.; 10-11-2014 at 05:12 PM.

And another thing! How did the word "tuner" come to mean a negative?
I always considered myself a capable tuner.. getting an engine to make power where I intended it. But now a "tuner" is some young gun with a computer in a high revving import with a fart can muffler? Who knew???
Since I play with "old cars".. does this mean I can't be a "tuner" anymore??

NO you can still be a tuner and I can hear it now, but you must disclose up front that you started with an abacus. Then moved up to using a slide rule. Then to a scientific calculator, but you don't need that crap because you do all your work by sound and feel and maybe a barometric reading once in a while. What in the world are you talking about old man? Here ya go sonny, take this lap top and sink n those double pumper 650 Holley's for me. And don't be taking me serous here... I'm joking and I use the laptop all the time on the LS motors so don't go there!Last edited by M.T.; 10-12-2014 at 10:14 AM.

Well, if someone who tunes with a laptop is a tuner, guess I'm on that list too!!!!! Oh yeah, we use a weather station and a temperature gun for checking track temp, too!!!!!! But no, it's not a 4 cylinder.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Don't worry about it,slinc... No probs from where I'm sittin'.. They are doing their new age thing,,and we are doing ours.. There will always be a difference between the generations, when it comes to the choice of car.. I know a few young guys who are donkey deep into them,,and they tell me how to change things,,tune things, etc,,and it blows me away.. But,,,I do know of a young guy who showed his employer the burnt points out of my dissy, one day,,and wanted to know what was wrong.. hehe.. some of these guys show an interest in what we have,as per V8,,hotrod,kustom,etc,,and they are the ones who I will share time with.. Some of them are arrogant little toads,,probably like a lot of hotrodders I know..Micah 6:8
If we aren't supposed to have midnight snacks,,,WHY is there a light in the refrigerator???

You can claim the term any way you want, but the younger crowd has an entirely different definition for the term "tuner" today, and it's not the ability to diagnose and manipulate data on a computer or programmer, it's a lifestyle. Some used to toss around a more derogatory "ricer" for this crowd, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside as not being PC. Tuner is just another term that's been claimed and re-defined in common usage. Call yourself a "tuner" if that trips your trigger, but unless you're running with the crowd you're not living the name. Evidence to support my point of view, three sites that focus on the term -

Just like 3 Bobs.. it was all tongue in cheek! It is amusing how the "culture" changes a words meaning and we have to re-learn / re-program our thinking.
Sorry for the hijack Slincoln

I think that is one of the things I really enjoy about having the Friday night young gun tech night at the shop. It keeps me in the loop with the latest in cars and the evolution of our language. Gotta bump = got to go, See ya in a b time= Later or maybe tomorrow, In a minute doesn't a minute= some time in the next few hours. example... "Gotta run to the part shack for some brake shoes, back in a minute". And the drifter terms are off the hook. Problem is I forget sometimes and start talking like them. Young guys get it and old guys my age have no clue. But I have noticed more older guys showing up on Friday night so who knows who is going to influence who? It will be an interesting brain flex (Study) to see how it works out. I will start making a list of car terms and bring everyone up to speed unless we have a few young guns here that play in both yards? Oh, and a M-ride is the motorcycle, c- ride is the car, and t-ride is the truck. "Peel and Steal" is the 1/2 price parts day at the local wrecking yard. They don't steal it, it is such a good price they compare it to stealing. Doing the peel & steel this weekend. You don't drink beer... are we doing a wash tonight? or I'm bringing the wash tonight... Go figure? Maybe it came from washing down the chips? And then we have all the surfer terms that I wont get into.Last edited by M.T.; 10-12-2014 at 10:33 AM.

Yeah, without knowing for sure I expect that the "lingo" is quite regionalized, with your SOCAL terms unique to your region, while the same age group around KC is going to have a bunch of unique terms, and another set in the New England area, or Gulf Coast. Think back to the '60's when the surf scene was all the rage - call someone a "hodad" in Missouri or Kansas and you'd likely get punched (or ridiculed) just because they had no idea what you meant.Roger

That might be a very interesting thread... Modern day car terms for your part of the world? I wonder if with the internet and and forums like this if it is making things less of a local regional thing and more of a national or even global thing? I'm sure television and radio had some effect on the regional boundary's of our speech. Heck. the Jim Roam sport radio show is now national and was only a So Cal thing for years. Now we have guys with Texas accents doing smack down talk radio with So Cal terms. Its cool but really weird to hear it with a draw!Last edited by M.T.; 10-12-2014 at 11:26 AM.
