Sometimes a picture is better than a thousand words if what's in the picture has worked for decades. I would like to see more pics. And I know every generation has their own idea of what a hot rod is, but it does get a little old looking at links of where to buy the same injection systems, crate engines etc. I'm not trying to offend anyone but to say it's not a photo forum but a hot rod forum don't make a lot of sense.

My point is that we don't need to eat up a lot of bandwidth for some supersized photo..... Everyone has been resizing pics since day one on here, the size and quality of the pics is just fine! When I said not a photography forum, I was saying the size and quality of pics on here is great, it's a bit unreasonable to expect Brent to spend a bunch of money and time changing things on the forum solely to accommodate posting bigger pics. Let's remember what happened last time big changes were made on here, and that was for changes that had to be made!!!!Last edited by Dave Severson; 10-22-2014 at 08:19 PM.

For the life of me I can't see why anyone who knows anything about digital photography (other than how to point and click a camera in AUTO mode) would believe that posting a 6MB file is going to look any better than posting a 500KB file to anyone looking on a computer. The beauty of having a 6MB file is that you can crop your picture down to a full frame picture of the gnat on the window of the vehicle, and see the details of that gnat's backside. A Canon EOS 60D takes great pictures on the high resolution setting, but to really use that high resolution file one must open it in an EDIT mode and start playing with the image to get the final picture you want from the image file.
And by the way, anyone can resize 100, 500 or 1000 pictures at a time by simply using a "Select All" feature, clicking "Resize", selecting the desired size and you then have two files for every picture, one original size and one reduced for normal use. You lose nothing, but you gain flexibility of the smaller file sizes for pictures you want to upload, e-mail, post on FB, or even print in normal 4x6 or 3x5 size with zero lost sharpness. Not sure why we seem to keep bringing this subject up so often when the process is so drop dead simple.Roger

Well, I'm still working my way thru the pic downloads from my camera from not only this trip, but 2 other recent car shows that I attended------------and I feel that maybe I need to clarify my position on the photo posting issues on this site and possibly directly address comments by Dave and Roger, not as an attack against there comments, but as an opportunity to answer some obvious opinions about this site and posting issues with pics that quite possibly many of you would like to see-------
First, since it's the shortest -------Dave-----this is a site that many people are on that like hot rods and customs, race cars of all types, and discussions of wheeled street vehicles along with occasional posts about farm tractors, antiques, boats, planes, and other off road recreational vehicles-----------and the best writers around can't begin to describe some of what they see nearly as well as a decent photo---------I know that you have many more posts than anyone else, have road, dirt, and bracket raced many years------altho it is commonly talked about in some circles that you are possibly one of the strongest contenders for the distinction of driving away more members of a forum than anyone on the net!!!!!!!!!!!
Roger-------we have had many excellent exchanges about many different things, and I truly appreciate and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the assistance that you have given me with posting of pics----------however, at this time I would like to beg for your support to get the posting procedures changed instead of slam banging me about it----------
I don't want to select all for downsizing of my pics to create another whole set of files-I have a Personal PC and not a major facility such as these hosting sites and my storage is limited as well-----------
I don't just point and shoot on auto as you have referred in one of your posts--------I carefully (when I can ) position myself for the light available and wait for the crowd to space out for a shot---mainly about the only thing auto on the camera is the exposure setting for the lighting and quite often I will use a flash fill in to erase shadows for detail shots in confined areas. Anyway, my photography methods aren't the subject so I'll move on.
As a old time racer? that's been in a lot of places, the art/periodness of the hot rodding world is vastly different in different sections of the country(world) and there are thousands of different ways to build a hot rod-------I try to look for and record some of those and find that others do enjoy/appreciate my efforts.
It would probably be much appreciated by many others on here if you rendered a little support to convince Brent to change these restrictions which I believe would raise the site to a new, much higher level--after all, everybody is constantly ranting pics, pics, pics

Jerry,
I don,t agree with any part of your rant for changing the size of picture files posted. You are mis-informed and don't choose to learn the facts, which is sad. Managing file sizes is part of photography today. No, I will not join you in asking Brent to changes regarding picture file sizes. It works just fine.Roger

Roger-here's some facts for you-------------I have over 3000 pics of shows this year that are hot rod related and I am not going to downsize them for posting on this site---------I would not be posting all of them even if I could , however there are hundreds that show some extremely high quality work in mod/repair/design work and artistic finishes.
If Brent can't/won't resolve the specs at this site, I will go elsewhere and you and Dave can chalk up another victory for you, down slide for the site----------

Jerry,
It's just not logical to support a request for Brent to allow huge photos on this site for the following reasons.
- You have limited storage - so does Brent.
- Monster photos eat up bandwidth and load slowly, even on my high speed connection.
- They are great for making prints, but provide little, if any, improved viewing on a computer screen.
Bottom line, most forums like this are a venue for what we used to call 'trading snapshots' as opposed to a photography arts exhibition.
No offense intended, but I find little value in downloading a 7mp photo for casual viewing.Jack

Roger, what resizing site do you use? I use photobucket, and I can't imagine trying to resize 100 photos at one time. Hell, it's hard enough to resize 10 in 20min some days. Photobucket is a POS but I know how to use it and all my pics are there. I've tried some other places but they were worse. I'm open to ideas or different places to try as well. I agree I doubt Brent can justify the bandwidth for larger photos but I am not a forum operator either.Ryan

I'm not trying to run you off Jerry, just think it's a little much of you to expect Brent to use up a bunch of bandwidth because you want your pictures to be big!!!! Far as that goes, the best show pictures and large collections I've seen on here are the one's like Randy and a few others do that you click on the link, sit back with a cup of coffee, and enjoy the slide show! Lots better presentation of the photos then going through page after page on a thread.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Mike,
I'm not at home now and my access is via an iPad which is not my norm. I believe that I generally work my files in Microsoft Photo, which has an "edit" tab when you open a file. If I have all of my pictures from a show in one folder I simple click "select all", then open the "edit" mode and click "resize". Each file gets duplicated in the selected smaller size. Easy as pie, and only a few keystrokes.
Jerry, the number of pictures you have is of zero significance. You are totally mis-informed about how to use your digital files, and you're sadly unwilling to learn. Your 6mb picture on a computer will not appear any different from a 800kb file. If you choose to leave over such a lame argument it will be sad.Roger
