Thanks for that. Unbelievable! I would say the guy turning the crank was about as brave as the guy driving it! One kick back and you would be crippled for life.

Yes, I found that interesting also, the delayed firing was another. Did you by chance notice the piston in the seat time stamp 00:45?

I had to go back and look. That thing must be 5" or bigger! Of course at over 1700 cubic inches and only 4 cylinders, it would have to be.

According to the Old Motor site, there is no power to the coil while he's turning the crank, for safety and to eliminate any possibility of kickback. It was explained that "...the crank is used to turn the motor to suck in some fuel and bring one cylinder just past TDC, then with the crank safely disengaged the trembler coil is turned on and the engine starts with a bang!" That seems to accurately describe what happened in the video.Roger

Just awesome - I 'bout jumped out of my chair when that thing lit off! Would have been exciting to be there in person. What a piece of automotive and engineering history. It is my impression that it is not a restoration, but a re creation.
Either way, real cool. I wonder who funded it. That vehicle gas got to have a quarter mil invested. And probably a comparable ( inflated ) amount in its original conception..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.
