You might want to check out ebay, some really good deals there.Ken Thomas

Ken, I'm likely overly cautious but I wouldn't buy a high end camera off of eBay. Too many gray market deals out there, buying from overseas and you may find that the unit you buy has no warranty coverage in the USA. Amazon's probably OK, but not evilBay for me, but to each his own.Roger

I can fully understand as it's buyer beware. I bought a used Rebel XTi for around $250 with 2 lens, filters, 3 batteries and a charger. It takes excellent pictures and I'm very happy with it. It also came with 4 memory cards and a wide angle lens.Ken Thomas

Sorry, didn't understand you were talking the previously owned market. If you're not shopping new then the warranty/support issues are not nearly as important. There are some things that I feel comfortable buying on eBay, but not bigger ticket items that are complex mechanically or electronically, but that's just me.Roger

If your need fits their bundle packages their discounts on the Nikon packages are pretty good, too. My son is looking at the Nikon D7100, but he already has a good DX telephoto, so the package with two lenses doesn't really fit for him. He may end up going to Nikon direct and looking at their refurbished D7100 for a $100 discount on the body only, still carrying full warranty, and then looking for a fixed length lens for every day use (new baby coming).
I'll drop out of this one now....Roger

I'm using a Canon G1X
it just has the right feel to me from a guy who carried a camera bag with Nikon F models with 5 lens / flash /grey card for years. TriX at 320. Kodachrome was my favorite song
It is a point and shoot if you like or make all the adjustments you can think of.
it has a lot of features like most newer cameras and a amazing LiPo rechargeable battery and the flip screen.
I use it at work for inspecting where I can't get my head in.
great camera

Nikon won, played with it tonight, think it is a winner. Ambient light, camera auto adjusted the parameters, the Bud machine was a 30sec exposure, not bad I say.

I've been shooting my first DSLR, a Nikon D50 with Nikon 70-300 Zoom lens for about 9 years. If it went kaflooey, I'd replace it with another Nikon. It's cool being able to take just the chip into Walmart and make copies of any photo, any size. Before this camera, I shot a Minolta SRT101 that I bought in 1972. I do not miss taking film to the processors and waiting for it. With the Nikon, I can see what I shot within seconds. I'm just amazed at technology.

Amen Tech! Saw in the last day or so that Canon's new EOS 5D, which is full frame camera (chip the size of 35mm film), will have a version that creates 50MP pictures! Talk about resolution, but also think about the storage of those babies if you shot in RAW mode! Gotta be something in the order of 100-150MB per frame.
Pepi, which Nikon did you get? My son just picked up the Nikon D7100 with a fixed 35mm lens for now, since he already had a DX zoom from his older Nikon.Roger

I agree completely, being able to pull a chip and see the pictures shot minutes before is great technology. Did you know Kodak still sells 35 mm film a bit hard to believe.
70-300 zoom that is a lot of glass, this camera came with a 16-55.. Looking hard at one of these 35 or 50 fast 2.8 fixed lens, telephoto nothing above 200 and quite possibly 135 max, see what the needs are.
D50 is a solid camera for sure, other then cars what else do you photograph? I like all things mechanical, and mother nature.I have two brains, one is lost and the other is out looking for it

Pepi I used a Nikon D50 like tech for years, bought it used off Ebay, without an issue. Recently bought a new Nikon body D5200(off ebay camera dealer with 1 year warrauntee for 400.00 and it uses all the D50 lens) for use and speed with my bigger lens, but still use the D50 for posting on line as it is between 2.5-5 mega bytes per photo vs. 24mgb for the D5200. The D50 is a solid old workhorse! If it's just for posting, no need for any new one at high end prices when any Nikon DLSR will do just great. Lots of friends have canon DSLR's and love them too!Last edited by stovens; 02-01-2015 at 11:11 AM.

Jerry I loved my 18-200 until it got dropped on my wife's cruise. We replaced it with an 18-270 tammeron lens that I like, but the old D50 body can't process the light limitations or focal points very fast so I fiound it was time to step up to a newer camera body, but this new camera has a much steeper learning curve to really use it for what it's capable for, so now I'm halfway thru D5200's for dummies! At home I still use the 35-80mm lens that came on our old Nikon SLR and it works quite well with the D50 body." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.
Thank you Roger. .
