Oldest Car I have Ever Towed
Towed this 24 T home today for a friend of mine.
Found in a field where it has sat the last couple of years. Literately in the middle of nowhere Illinois.
Wished we had taken a couple of pics where we picked it up, because I went from driving on a Macoupin County asphalt road to a 2 lane gravel road to a single lane gravel road, down too a one lane gravel road that had grass growing up in it that ended in a field.
All original steel and looks like it's rust free......joe

I don't buy it. Rust free? What's the punch line.
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

That's an amazing story! Almost like somebody took it out to the middle of nowhere to hide it from someone. It looks to be in amazing shape, considering a couple of years out in the elements.Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Where in Macoupin County, Joe? I grew up in Northern Macoupin County in a little town called Virden near the Sangamon County line and about five miles west of I-55 (Old US-66). In fact, Rte 66 used to go through Virden. I've driven a lot of those little blacktop and gravel roads.Jack

Yes, it sure looked rust free, but then the car had been almost been gone through about 15yrs ago & then just sat. My understanding is it had been in the field under a tarp the past couple of years where I picked it up. The guy got it for the work done. The original owner has passed away & the wife never came to get it so he put a lean on it. Then my friend found it & I drove to the middle of no where to pick it up. As far as I could tell Henry, it was near the Madison/Macoupin County area somewhere outside Fosterburg, Il. Cause when you drive down what seems like 10-15 miles of gravel road & pull up to a field even though there was a house or two you passed, it sure looked like the middle of no where.....joeLast edited by TooMany2count; 05-02-2015 at 01:47 AM.

I grew up in northwest corner of Macoupin Cty and over the years there were lots of stuff outside behind barns-just no traffic down those roads to see them. You were at the absolute southern end of the county-----down there on rt I55 at Staunton is a place were hundreds of classic cars are for sale just north of intersection of I55 and Staunton road-east side -called Country Classic Cars IIRC--------
Out behind the barn ( sounds like a song?)

Kudos to your friend - - - - some Tin needs Rodding and some need Originality - - - - IMHO that one needs to make folks think of "Legends of the Fall".

It is in good shape from what I seen. But all the wood is just about gone from sitting outside for the past few years w/no roof insert on it & only covered by a tarp. The guy that has it will use the body & frame but he won't be cutting the roof down IF no one offers him enough to by the complete car. He wants to build it but as he say "Everything has a price, including his dog". Personally I'd sell it as a complete car & build a glass one or find a POS/Rusty one to cut up. But that's just me.....joe.Donate Blood,Plasma,Platelets & sign your DONORS CARD & SAVE a LIFE
