    I know just about every detail of the steering wheel knobs---most in our area/age were on tractors, they took several turns of the wheel to make all those sharp turn arounds and also operate hyreaulic(or hand lift) cultivators,moewrs,etc at same time---also very useful backing up wagons---anybody else ever do that?


    Some were wooden, some metal, even some had ball bearings in them

    I even to this day have one on my John Deere lawnmower/snow blower

    Those hubcaps were the most stolen automotive item in the 60s

    lots of times just the right side because driver wouldn't notice

    High School Auto shop, the one class you didn't want to leave!
    Pop machines, cigarette machines, the old coke and pepsi bottled pop in vending machines with pop top openers.

    Datsun 240z rusted out faster than anything we had here before-over the rear wheel fender lip . rocker panels,etc-seems they (esprcially in salted road areas) only lasted one year before showed up

    Em------yes they were almost rusted thru before they got them back on the icy road after sliding off the first winter drive

    Did you guys see the Firebird on the hood?????? Center fold HotRod Magazine in 1977


    Oh, I'm guessing that was what the likes were for-not the Datsum comment??????

    That's BS, my 68 Charger by 1970 had rust around the rear window at the sail panels and I was in Anaheim at the time.

    !968 Ford Mustang free of rust until the day I sold it in 1984. I guess it depends on how close to the ocean you are, etc. Cars are much slower to deteriorate up north, unless you keep them exposed to the elements or live on the coast. Generally speaking, but I do notice certain manufacturers having more paint failure and oxidation than others, especially chevy trucks that are red or green. It seems there is a clear coat issue!

    Jerry I did see the Firebird on the hood of the dragster....Very cool! Great shot on the cover too!

    My experience with the mid- sixties Stangs were that the cowl fresh air vent would rust out and then the pathetic unibody construction, torque boxes included would just rust away. No salt, no sea air just very poor design IMHO.

    I recall specifically visiting the local Ford dealership in Corpus Christi, TX, looking at Torino Fastbacks in 1971, where the rear glass was at about 20 degrees up from dead flat? His lot was just off of Ocean Drive on the bay front, maybe 100yds from the gulf waters, and those brand new cars were getting surface rust around the bottom corners where the chrome trim met the sail panels in less than a month on the lot!! Even at that young age I looked at that and quietly walked away......

    But the Datsun 240Z's were worse by far! I think they were using recycled beer cans left behind by the GI's for their body panels, and they knew NOTHING about cold weather climates, and chemicals on roads to melt snow/ice. It was a nasty time for the Japanese manufacturers.....
