Some people - a rant
Today I am not the proud owner of a beautiful 2000 Silverado.
Here's the scenario: I called a craigslist ad, told him I wanted his truck, can he deliver? I've got cash. So he shows up, the truck is beautiful, looks great, good price.
Dude had a title signed- but not in his name. He had no paperwork showing legal ownership of the truck. He was actually going to forge signature of the name on the title for the bill of sale!
After trying twice to explain that what he was proposing was criminal, I told him to "get off my property." He's lucky I don't like drama else I would have called the cops..

Crikey!
Caveat emptor!
I would've done exactly the same.
If you'd gone along with his 'cunning plan', a few months down the track there would be a distinct possibility that someone would tap you on the shoulder to tell you that the truck was theirs; and is stolen property.
And I'm sure you don't want to chance not only losing your money; but quite possibly facing a charge of receiving stolen property!
Yep; getting rid of him was a wise move on your part alright!johnboy

Thanks. I needed the kudos. It's really got me preoccupied. Just so blatant. I would think criminals would try to be more subtle..

Did you write down the numbers to actually check to see if it was his? Might of been doing a big favor to some fellow human being to point the law toward solving something and somebody getting there truck back plus a thugass off the street??????
And I agree about not giving him the money and get outta here--------
Big dollar Craigslist deals should be done at some meeting place under security cams, not at your home-----

Funny you should say that. He originally wanted to do the transaction at the police station. If we had, I would have insisted we use a cop for witness, and the police don't look highly upon forgery.
The whole deal seemed a little odd from the start. I believe he was the legal owner of the truck, and was just finagleing the paperwork, so it didn't occur to me to write down the numbers and turn it in.
If he makes a habit of such tom foolery, he'll be behind bars eventually..

Its risky to take a vehicle to an unknown person/place when $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ are involved. Police station would of been better for both of you

Today, I AM the proud new owner of a 2000 silverado.!
Different truck. Even nicer. $6500. Craigslist ad.
Nice guy. I stopped by his work and looked at it, it's nice. He picks me up at my house, and drives me out to his place near lake Harding. Paperwork in order, no BS. Just that easy.
THAT is how a cash transaction is SUPPOSED to go..

craigslist = shopping cart for thieves. i have never used it nor will i . there have been countless robberies and killings tied to it. not to mention that thieves use it instead of pawn shops now. so that great deal you got on some poor mechanics tools just makes you part of the problem.

I can't dispute your perspective.
But there are honest people out there too.
I've done a lot of selling and buying on craigslist.
I just go into every deal with my eyes open, one hand on my wallet, the other on my 9mm..

it only takes once.
Yep. And I seem to move 1 thing and it displaces something else with 1/2 of that landing on the workbench and then I forgot where I was going with this other thing and I'll see something else that...
