Art Of The Car Concours 2016
Each year towards the 4th Sunday in June brings the Art of the Car Concours to the grounds of the Kansas City Art Institute, with proceeds going to fund scholarships to the Institute. It's becoming one of the premier concours type events in the region, better each year. The venue is space limited, and the organizing group has been doing a great job of improving the theme year to year. This year was "Ford Performance", and they had a wide array of historic vehicles present. First, here's a link to the venue web site, and the cars that are going across the top banner are from this years unloading/staging/displays - https://www.artofthecarconcours.com/
I was not able to be one of the "walkers" who meet the cars at the entry gate early Sunday morning, and guide them to their assigned spaces on the lawn, but I did get down to the grounds for a couple of hours during the "public time". By the time we were there there were tons of people wandering around, so taking photos was a challenge, unless one was satisfied with a picture of a matron from Ward Parkway with a vintage Ford GT40 immediately behind her ample backside....
This is the sum total of the photos I took Sunday -
A very nice "newer" Ford GT, 2005/2006 vintage.

One of the six Daytona Cobra's that were built. An interesting story - Peter Brock, who was the designer of the Daytona Coupe, was a part of the "Legends" panel, and he told the group that after the successful run at LeMans with the Daytona Coupes the cars were back in the shop in SoCal. One of the cars was offered to the guys working the shop (post LeMans) for $800, and no one was interested! That car was sold a few weeks later to a local guy for $500!! Can you imagine buying a Cobra Daytona for $500, holding it for 50 years and offering it as a "barn find"??

A very nice "slab side" 289 Cobra.

Very neat cars, roger. I had to google the Indy car to find the era it raced in and I was a couple of decades off, I was thinking late 40's early 50's and it was 1938. This explains it much better. Thanks for posting.

Yes, Canon EOS 60D, 18-200 1 to 3.5-5.6 zoom, 0.125s exposure. All but one picture (Indy Car) were cropped, then all were reduced to 25% of original size for posting, keeping the original files full size.
Saw this promo piece from CanonUSA, showing the clarity and capability of their big digital zoom lenses. Simply amazing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUBs7wjT4-cLast edited by rspears; 06-29-2016 at 05:49 AM.
