I went to SEMA this Year too and was shocked at the lack of pre-49 stuff, although the stuff that was there was of very high quality-I did get to see Chip Foose unveil his new "Madam X" Cadillac (real craftsmanship there)-
My Brother-in Law has a shop that builds '65-'72 Mustangs In Georgia, so we spent time looking at stuff for them (there were some nice early Mustangs there)-his Wife is the VP for Orafal (who had a Booth at SEMA, and she gets me Tickets for IndyCar, Nascar and such-I understand she met with Don Schmacher Racing at SEMA for a possible Sponsorship deal, so maybe I'll get some NHRA Tickets (I hope!)-
Anyway, I guess a bad day at SEMA looking at newer cars is better than a good day working (Oh, and some of the female "models" there were pretty spiffy too)!Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

I was only interested in looking at cars....never noticed the models. Yeah, sure...only in Las Vegas can you see that many gorgeous ladies at one time!

It is truly sad to watch the pre 48's slowly die off, but not too many can be found to build and the cost of building them has gone thru the roof..cheaper to build a newer model! As far as I am concerned it'll always be an early model hot rod for me!I thought I knew a lot, until I had teenagers!

We here in New Zealand have had that problem for years but gladly, we have had some darn excellent aftermarket manufactures building fibreglass reproduction cars that are outstanding. So,yes genuine steel bodied vehicles are as rare as hen teeth, those who still want anything from a '22 -23 T Roadster to '37 Ford Roadsters can still buy locally. Even our Robin on here (Laminator) has developed a new '28/29 Ford Roadster body that is absolutely stunning.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

I have to agree with this, but having said that, after fooling around with pre-49 stuff for about 30 years I found myself wanting something different. I could have built a '32 or 34', but decided I wanted something in a muscle type car. That explains my current project and I'll have a lot less money in it than I would have with either of those. I will be making over my 46 coupe after I finish the Healey, though, so I'm not done with pre-49 yet.

I saw some pictures of late 40's trucks and early 50's cars with diesel swaps at SEMA. I'd really like to go there soon. One thing that peaked my interest was the Wagler DX500 Duramax from Wagler performance. 500 cubes, PSI screw blower, 2 102mm turbos, and nearly billet everything. It's supposed to be in a competition truck at the UCC event in indy in April. I'm going to try to go. I'd love to hear that thing run. I know this has nothing to do with pre 48 rods, but this reminds me of what was going on in the hot rod world in the 60s. If you can't get it and really need it, someone found a way to get the funding, and built it. I'm sure this project is in the craziness out of this world price tag though.
