I have one of those that I bought as a knock around gun to keep my Gold Cup from getting beat up. Very cheap when I bought it, but it is pretty accurate and has actually held up very well. I would have no idea of the hardball equivalent reloads that it has digested. I don't shoot much any more, but at one time I was pretty serious. If I could own only one handgun, it would be a 1911, hands down. My shooting buddies all switched to Glocks, but I've stuck with John Browning's masterpiece.

Funny thing I've noticed is that a large percentage of the car people I've known over the years tend to also have at least some greater interest than the average Joe in guns.

I got into guns a bit but two expensive hobbies is too much for my wallet. Lots of .22's , a few shotguns , Mosen Nagant , and my new favorite gun is my .17hmr . My dad in law had a large gun collection and when he passed away it was decided that the best thing to do with all the guns was bring them to a local gun auction and if you wanted one, you could buy it. He had a gov't issue 1911 still in the box, never shot from the Korean War era. If I remember right it brought around $3,500, bought by my BIL. He was told he got a good deal on it from the second to last bidder.

I was looking at a .17HMR, but finally talked myself out of it since my favorite long gun is my little Henry 22Mag. I really like the lever action, and just today realized that I can buy the large loop carbine lever for it from their parts store! Now you've got me thinking again, looking at this one, but with a large loop lever ....

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

Obviously, they're good at 10', but a good M1911A1 is damn good well outside of that. My Springfield Armory M1911A1 is much more accurate than I am, as my 20 year-old grandson recently proved to me. At 74, my eyesight and muscle control aren't quite as robust as his - although I easily qualified in the top 10% of my Texas CHL class.

And todays issues are the transgender militanys????????I've been wacking my brain trying to think of political correct way of discussing the best means to solve the issue-------A---just cut off penis and scotum, leaving a hole to urinate? B---Remove breasts and donate them to women wanting an enhancement??? C---- BRAIN TRANSFER was the winning option----switch brains between opisate type bodies--then they'd have what they wanted with a simple SINGLE stage operation with far fewer chances of infections, difficulties walking, bathing sore parts----------

    What do you think????

I think "Mad Dog" has said enough is enough and the limp dicks can whine till the cows come home.
For the life of me I can't remember what the Marine Corps taught us was the maximum effective range is for a 1911, I'm thinking 50 yards or so. I fired one in Okinawa that the barrel was so worn out that I only managed to qualify Marksman. Back in the states I got one that an armorer had just gone through and qualified high Expert, 237 out of 250. As Henry Rifle said I think with my age, 74 next month, I don't think I could duplicate that.
As far as long guns I'm working towards an M1 Garand, I shot expert ,222, with one in boot camp.

I could never get used to the M14. I have short arms and I couldn't get it to balance properly and whoever devised the hinged butt plate ought to have it up his a**. I was told that the flash suppressor was easily bent, don't know but I hated that rifle. IMHO, the M16 is a mickey mouse piece of s**t with firepower being it's only good quality.

I, too, like shooting. Not a marksman by any means.

Good old McNamara, One of the most worthless POS to ever walk this earth. He made the Army accept the m16 and send it to Nam before it was fully tested. IMHO, it's a toss up as to who is more worthless, him or Johnson.
