Mines a copy, made in the Philippines, but it shoots straight and that's all that counts. I read somewhere that the CMP might start selling surplus 1911's, that will be interesting.

I have one of those that I bought as a knock around gun to keep my Gold Cup from getting beat up. Very cheap when I bought it, but it is pretty accurate and has actually held up very well. I would have no idea of the hardball equivalent reloads that it has digested. I don't shoot much any more, but at one time I was pretty serious. If I could own only one handgun, it would be a 1911, hands down. My shooting buddies all switched to Glocks, but I've stuck with John Browning's masterpiece.

Funny thing I've noticed is that a large percentage of the car people I've known over the years tend to also have at least some greater interest than the average Joe in guns.

I got into guns a bit but two expensive hobbies is too much for my wallet. Lots of .22's , a few shotguns , Mosen Nagant , and my new favorite gun is my .17hmr . My dad in law had a large gun collection and when he passed away it was decided that the best thing to do with all the guns was bring them to a local gun auction and if you wanted one, you could buy it. He had a gov't issue 1911 still in the box, never shot from the Korean War era. If I remember right it brought around $3,500, bought by my BIL. He was told he got a good deal on it from the second to last bidder.

I was looking at a .17HMR, but finally talked myself out of it since my favorite long gun is my little Henry 22Mag. I really like the lever action, and just today realized that I can buy the large loop carbine lever for it from their parts store! Now you've got me thinking again, looking at this one, but with a large loop lever ....

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
