Wow, that is some radical thinking there but Shine hit the nail squarely on the head using a bloody big hammer, " IT'S CALLED VOTING " and that is the critical fault of every free country around the world, how does one encourage ALL who legally can to VOTE. We have the same issue here yet when a party who " wins the most votes " gets into power which goes against what the people wanted, then the figures show that the percentage of the legible voting public didn't even bother to cast a vote.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

The first time I was eligible to vote was in the presidential election in 1964 and I received an absentee ballot from Ohio, my home of residence and voted for Johnson. Later I determined that was a mistake, but I was young and dumb. After being discharged from the Marine Corps I stayed in California and once residence was established I voted everytime I had an opportunity and have done so ever since. The older I get the less tolerance I have for limp dicks, liberal progressives, goat humpers and the knuckle dragging entitled crowd. And I have become down right bigoted to those whose sole purpose in life is to kill infidels. If that makes me a "radical" then I covet the title.Ken Thomas

Just to add to what I was saying about the choice to vote, in the news today they are putting the figure of eligible voters NOT enrolled to vote here in New Zealand at approximately 45,000. Now that doesn't appear to be a big number compared to your population but we only have slightly over 4 million people her in NZ so that is quite a number who just can't be bothered yet will probably be very vocal if they don't like the results of the election.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

As an outsider it's not my position to criticise your country's politics so I won't; but there have been many interesting points made/raised in this thread.
Regarding the history of your nation: it has been said by one far smarter than I that "Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
And: "Those that would deny and destroy knowledge of their past" (as in demolishing Civil War Memorials,) 'tis but a small step to destroying books. And from there 'tis but another small step to destroying people." (As in racial hatred and bigotry...remember the Witches of Salem? The lynching of negroes?)
Learning about the past and the mistakes that were made is the way to the future.
But don't try to live there; that's not where the future lies. If you keep looking backwards you'll fall into the abyss that's right in front of you.

Some excellent points! But voting to change term limits for our "elected officials" probably won't change much because of the mind set of too many people. They simply vote for a particular person because of their party affiliation only! Saw it too many times back home! Yes, term limits would change a great deal on how things would get done in the senate and the house. Let's hope something changes very soon!I thought I knew a lot, until I had teenagers!

i will say this. a convention of states is the most asinine thing i have heard in a while. to think the very people who will not even stay on the job or work to get anything done are going to pass a bill putting them out of a job or cut their pay is ridiculous . once you swat a hornets nest you cant unswat it. they can add/change/remove any amendment . think about that for a while .

A lot of good valid info and thoughts here. Voting, this is only good if you actually have good choices to vote for. Our last presidential voting options for example, were in my mind, not worth a crap. I picked who I thought would be the lesser of the 2 evils. What scares me is, out of our country's entire population, those 2 were the best we have to choose from? No, it has become more about money and who knows who more than anything. All the government officials are corrupt in one way or another. And if there are new people who aren't corrupt, they will be pushed out, or join them soon. To me the only way to get our political system back on track is to start over. But that would likely mean a revolution. Which may not be a bad thing because all these idiots that bitch and cry all day instead of actually working, would be gone.
I must be in the minority of Tech's age 40 and under he was talking about. We were taught about god in school, you best stand there and face your flag and say the pledge of allegiance or you would be setting down waiting for your chat with the principle. Whom still used a board with holes drilled in it if you couldn't do what you were told. We also were taught the 10 commandments, and had actual history books, not doctor'd ones like today. Last year I went to a PTA meeting for our local school with a lot of other parents to get the district to purchase new history, math, and science books. Not only new, but a different brand. There were so many false, and wrong things in the books, the children would never know the difference unless they had a good teacher whom would correct everything as he or she went along. Or, the parents would have to catch and try to teach their children what really happened.
I couldn't believe most schools only teach cursive for a week, some don't teach it at all. This new math system they teach the kids by is ridiculous too. I will agree that a lot of kid's problems these days stem from their parents. My wife and I try to do the best we can and try to raise our kids as we were raised. To be respectful, honest, and love your country. They're learning as much as their minds will allow in the summers by us. We'll see how well they retain it because certain teachers try to unlearn things and give them different ideas. More corruption, and that should be dealt with too.
Social media is another thing that drives me nuts. Everything is tied into it some how. Our president shouldn't be tweeting and all that crap IMO. The media should be held accountable and quit trying to get the best ratings by spreading the most info, whether it's wrong or not. My wife's father, who is a pastor and a retired Marine, has told me several times that technology will lead to our race's end. I didn't argue with him then, and I still wouldn't today.Ryan

I know what you mean. My oldest granddaughter and her husband are high school teachers and they don't exactly share my values. I have told my granddaughter that my service and her mother's is what allowed her the opportunities and advantages she has been given. Obviously we don't often talk.Ken Thomas

Down through history lands have been invaded and conquered and to the victors went the spoils. Both the Aztecs and Inca's were no match for the invading Europeans and their civilizations were more advanced than any of the native Americans and that is a fact of life in no matter what context it's viewed. With a few exceptions the United States doesn't keep land it has conquered which has gotten us in to some of the problems we face today. We should have kept Canada and Central America and there would have been no need for NAFTA.
The liberal voices heard on college campuses today is a glaring example of the left's position on free speech and appear to be the same as many left leaning politicians with the worst examples being Schumer, Pelosi and the ever present "Mad" Maxine Waters.Ken Thomas
