I saw a few things in the pics that made me uncomfortable----------size of the helmut, size of the roll cage, considering the fitment and wheather there was a HANS type device plus some other concerns------

Junior Dragsters were just coming on the scene when I began teching at Firebird International Raceway in the summer of 1990. Shortly after, I was testing for Silver Certificate with NHRA and teching Juniors. Throughout my tenure as a tech guy, I held the cars and equipment of the Junior Dragster league to a higher standard over the adult racers and taught all the tech inspectors under me to be especially vigilant about equipment for the youngsters. I mean, it had to be right on the money as far as fit and efficiency, or they had to pack it up and go home. These young racers and their parents and grandparents soon came to understand that we would not tolerate anything below perfection in the cars and equipment that we were trusting with these young lives and they all stepped up to the plate with the "RIGHT STUFF". I cannot remember an incident where a youngster was even slightly injured in the 20 years of my tenure there and I'm very proud of that. Of course we had incidents. We had T-bones and flips and rolls and crashing into the walls and most any other kind of incident you could think of, but the youngsters walked away because of the equipment that we insisted on.
The death of this young girl was preventable, it's just that someone ignored the awesome responsibility that was involved in protecting her precious life.

What a really sad day for that girl's parents. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. That would be hard to live with I'm sure.Ryan

That's terrible. Loosing a child that young would probably put me over the edge, I can't imagine.Seth

So sad. Too young to really know the danger of what she was doing. As a parent, my heart goes out to the family.Mike
