2017 Gift building/exchange
Where has this year went? It's already time to be building Christmas gifts again. We're trying to stay ahead of the curve this year. Luckily we aren't building another bed.
This is a flag wall mount that also serves as a sort of hidden gun cabinet. I thought it would be perfect for my youngest brother whom was in the Marines. We still have to get the stars laid out, install peg board, on the back, and add some hardware for the door. But it's close to finished. We will be making another one for my brother in law and his wife. Dan was in the Marines as well.
Please excuse the mess. Too many things going on all the time as usual.Ryan

We used stain for the red and white, and some blended paint that my wife applied and wiped off for the blue. On the next one I am really thinking about using dykem spray.Ryan

Sorry for the blurry pics. My phone's auto focus is a pita a lot of the times.
This is a coffee table for my parents. The one they currently have is heavy and a catch all. Mom can't move it by herself and she's always tired of the junk collecting storage areas. Maybe this will slow down that and she should be able to move it around on her own. I have to go get taller legs for it. Someone was pretty certain they'd work when we were at Menards. I was not arguing about it anymore and just let the final product show her.
I still have to glue and screw the top to the frame. Then we will poly it. I don't think we'll stain it first. I like the look of the pattern currently and I think the stain will cover it some.
Allyson is wood burning 2 round table tops we got and we'll turn them into lazy Susans. She showed me how much people are selling them for on the net and I can't believe people pay that for them. It is insane. I can't remember how many other things we have to do but I'll find out soon enough.Ryan

That is some great looking stuff! How do you get the "blue" on the flag? Spray on paint then wipe it with a rag or something?Steve

We used some acrylic paint thinned down with water, applied it with a foam brush, waited a little while, and wiped the excess off. We did that 3 times to get it to where it's at. We've been trying to get some blue stain but everything has been out of stock. I sprayed some dykem on a board and I might give that a try on the next one.Ryan

What kind of wood is that table made with? Do you know? It looks like a pine from here.

Mike, it is a pine of some sort. We burned the surface to get the look. I didn't realize how much it makes the grain pop. I like it. The 40 may have to have hard wood floors in it. You know, like those fancy billy big riggers have in theirs.Ryan

This morning I got the top of the table screwed down to the frame. I added braces under neath but ran out of short screws so I will have to finish it later. Not much picture difference from before until now. Haha
I have been wanting to put some shelves in my shed for a while. I had some wood from my fence build that I couldn't return, and is too warped/twisted to use on anything that needs to look nice. So, this morning I decided to use the junk wood for shelves. I'm going to try to put shelves down the entire right side, and some up front higher than the hood on the mower. I will add another level once I get the plywood on the lower shelf. This thing will be jammed full shortly.Ryan

I couldn't find it quickly but, I had seen it on the "net so it must be true! There is an actual mathematical formula that proves the growth of "stuff" is exponentially greater than the area it can occupy! That's why no matter how big a structure you can erect, the "stuff" will become bigger!
Merry Christmas ya'll
