A new Army Pvt and The California Kid

I was in Kansas City today to attend the swearing in to the Army of my grandson Pvt Josh Romay. He was sworn in by his mother and my oldest daughter Colonel Crystal Romay. On IMG_6535.jpgIMG_6538.jpgIMG_6537.jpgIMG_6544.jpgIMG_6542.jpgthe way back to Springfield I decided to stop in Peculiar, Mo at Pete and Jake's to see in person one of the most iconic hot rods ever built, The California Kid.

And it runs a straight axle, doesn't get any better than that.

What a great experience for your family! I was able
To do the same with my grandson 3 1/2 years ago.
    Seems like yesterday!

Absolutely fantastic. Congratulations to the new private and thanks to his family for serving and having served!!!!

Yup the California kids is one of my favorites too. I have a copy of the movies I still watch every once in a while........Kind of hated to see the old 57 Plymouth Cop car go over the mountain though...especially when I was hunting parts to put my old 57 together

A great way to make the commitment for both Mother & Son! Congratulations to all.

A trip to Pete & Jake's is one of those good times, too. If you can catch Jason when he doesn't have the phone glued to his ear he loves to talk about the history, growing up with the business. If they're not too busy he'll sometimes have one of the guys give an informal tour of the place wandering around in the fab areas and seeing the works in progress. A neat place to hang out for an hour or two.

All good! Looks to be a lot of great parenting passed from grandpa to mom to grandson. How proud you must be.

I forgot to ask Ken where will Josh be taking Basic Training and what specialty will he be training for in AIT?

I had to go back and rewatch one of my favorite California Kid videos on You tube.

If you look real close starting at 3:50 you can watch the engine magically transform from a small block Ford (not available in 1958) to a small block Chevy and back again.
