Flooding and oil spill by me
Well for the second time in 4 yrs there is tremendous flooding by me, this time due to 6 ish inches of rain in 3 days in the entire tri state region. As if that wasn't bad enough the train derailed across from my brother in laws farm and 33 cars of crude oil are piled up in the flood waters. What a mess, I was told 500 clean up workers are here and 50 trucks of clean up equipment.Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 06-22-2018 at 08:26 PM.

This is west of Rock Valley, the green roof building is a Bomgaars and Highway 18 is in front of it.Seth

We're a long ways up so im in no danger. The Rock river rises fast and drops fast so it's down a ways already. We've had two " 100 yr " floods in 4 yrs.Seth

Yuk. I hate spilled oil. Can't even imagine it on that scale..

Sorry to hear this. As someone that lives behind a levee, I have a ton of sympathy for anyone that faces flooding. The oil makes it 10X worse.Mike

This is bad, the river is still at flood stage and we just had a repeat of heavy rains like before. East of us it's reported that at least four inches fell and reports of 3 inches in rock valley. Travel is banned in RV now and people are getting evacuated in lower parts. More rain tommorow.Seth

Holly cow what a huge mess! It wasn't all that long ago that I-29 was shut down and washed out rendering it gone for about half a year or so was it? We just got more rain last night and just got hammered an hour ago again. If it keeps this up it won't be too good.Ryan

We finally went one whole day without rain. We're on high enough ground that it's not really a problem for us, down in Seth's neighborhood it's a real mess and more water still heading that way!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

This morning our entire basement was flooded thanks to the storm sewer backing up into it. Luckily we had most things up off of the floor but it still took 2 pumps 4 hours to pump the majority of the water out. Not cool. We got hammered last night for the 3rd night in a row. It was nice of the city to come hook up their water pump and pump out the storm sewer after our basement became a holding tank for them.......Ryan

That sucks Ryan, sewer is the worst. Thankfully I think we're on the tail end of it here, again. the river crested at 19.4 feet today which was lower than what it crested a few days ago. No rain for the rest of the week! They also got the rail going again yesterday, it's unbelievable how fast they get them things repaired. They estimate just the cost of the train derail was 30 million, that doesn't include the 12-18 month EPA cleanup. The head of the whole operation said " I know this was hard on your town and created a lot of stress for all of you, don't take this the wrong way but if our train ever derails again, I hope it happens in Doon again. We have never been treated so kind and worked with such a great bunch of people ". Most places they go to they get sworn at all day and protesters line the roads. Our whole town got together and fed them like kings and helped them in anyway possible.Seth
