    48 Chevy rat rods?

Does anyone have any pics of some 1948 Chevy Coupe rat rods? I am trying to see some other idea's before I just go out and do what I plan on doing now. Rat rod meaning dropped pretty low, flat black, white walls, and that's about it, not the original no brakes peice of crap non working ones.
Thanks a lot for any pics. I looked around but have not found a single one and looked through over 500 pictures of 48's.

Well, generally with ratrods there flat black, grey or sealed over steel for bare metal look. Most have red wheels with possible white wall tires and some also have moon caps, mexican blanket thrown over seat for seat cover, not much for an interior at all, some have aluminum seats, no door panals usally. People normally rat rod because it's cheaper and you don't have to care about it, in your case, the car will not be cheap and you won't want to beat on it because of the hard work. Just spray it in flat black primer, drive it around like that whail thinking of a color scheme for the whole car, don't have interior recovered unless your doing neutral tones that match any color exterior color, like grey but remember, your dash and any exposed metal should be painted the exterior color, so make shure you like the contrast of the colors like, if your car is painted daytona yellow, a tan/ taupe would not be a good idea.

Well. I wan't a nice interior, etc. Just thinking of an exterior look. Inside I wan't EVERYTHING white. I might powder coat the dash board chrome but if not them the blue I am using for the flames if I do what I plan on doing now. Either way I will use white interior. Any pics though or know where I can find any?

go to www.carnut.com and search, 1946-1948 are basicly the same car. I think you'd be sorry if you powder coated the dash chrome, you'd wreck the car on a sunny day, it would look better painted the same color as the exterior, so it would be flat black or grey if you go rat rod, if your going your original plan, you may be able to get away with using the blue that your flames will be but, it will probably look bad. 99% of the old cars had matching dash and interior metal ( metal around windows and such ) colors match the dominant exterior color.

True... Well found nothing on carnut. Oh well. Maybe someone else here may have one or something. Not sure on the dash idea but you may be right, might just stick with the gloss black. Right now I am going with the original idea unless I see a sweet flat black one. I am still sanding that damn dash down and not even close to half way done. I have two of em too and one will be hanging on my wall when I am done but that is last, I need to get the one for my car done and them primered.

If you drive your car around in primer, it WILL rust. Primer is porous.

I will use a matt black. John, I do not have a pic of my car complete, it's in pieces. Let me get this pic out of my email and post it here. I need to see what it will look like with a chop on it and dark windows with sme dark blue metallic look ghost outlined flames. I don't know if I will do the rat look though... We'll see.

Ok John I was going to send you the pic but the damn thing won't work.
What do you guy's think about this if I just did this with no chop top like that is... I can't make up my mind but am going more towards the one in the pic. Rat rod or this? What do you guy's think? I know you will say it's my car and do what I wan't but I would just like some oppinions. I am going to have to buy a truck soon anyways to use for a daily driver so I will rat rod it out instead if I go with the look in the pic.

If not a rat rod then I would like it to set like that pic above with 16.5 inch wide tires in the rear (pro street look) and then gloss base with metallic blue flames in this color... (I finally found a color similar to what I wan't, I have never seen a color as close to this as I have in my head... Oh and the flames won't be that style and that skinny.
    Tell me what you think.

Here is an example kind of like I would do if I were to flat black it... But lower and white walls.
