    Question about old trucks

My grandfathers neighbors lawn is like a junkyard, in it is a 1952-1953 GMC 5 window 1/1/2 or 2 ton with a dullies and a rotten out dump like box, I'v only seen it from the road but, it's right near the road so it's pretty visible, the cab looks rust free and pretty much dent free, the wood box is rotted out and the sides are spreading apart from the amount of junk in it. Is this worth anything, I think there starting to clean out and I may be able to get it but, I want to know if it would be worth the effort of like turning it into a hotrod truck or somthing?I know it would need a new chassie and everything

The way they get rid of cars/ junk is about 1 every 2-3 years and, they arleady just got rid of a Dodge carevan so, it will be there for a few more years at least. I'm deffinetly gonna finish the '51 b4 I get anything else, I'v done too much to the car to let it sit ( well, it is in my grandfathers barn for the winter, does have concrete floor in the barn though ), I'v also drawn very close to the car because it's my first classic and it's special to me for that fact. With the truck, I knew the original frame was unusable for a hotrod but, I was looking at the solid cab, with good glass. I was under the impression that the cabs are the same between all the models up to 2 ton or so, it's just like the hidden valley ranch truck except the bed has been skinned with plywood, that and it's faded red instead of green

For now, I guess I do. I don't think I'm gonna get rid of the '51 anytime soon after it's finished ither ( I plan to take it to my highschool graduation in 2 years ( Class of 2007 because I failed 7th grade 1ce ), maby after the '51's done, I'll look to restore the Falcon to sell it for more than I paid to finance another classic hotrod project.

Oh, Streets, speaking of my '51, when you said I could come get 2 H78-15 4" whitewall tires on that what do you want for christmas thread, were you joking or were you serious? That's actully the same tires I need and need at least 2 to become legal due to weatherchecking on the rears but fronts are ok.

Matt the truck isn't worth it really man. Those are not worth much at all. If you were going to make it a car hauler and made a sloped bed in the back to put a car on it and all then that would be sweet but you would need TONS of money to get that thing going and a new chassis and everything. Those trucks are really damn heavy and would need everything done to it like Streets said. It would be a badass truck to get fixed up as a car hauler though.

I do know they can be worth somthing, specially 5 window cabs ( 2 extra windows in rear cab corners ) but, yeah, it would take a lot of work so I'm probably not going to ask.

Ok I'll go against the grain here I sold my 49 5 window many years ago for $3000 the cab was in pretty bad shape but it did have a new bed a perfect grill with push bars rebuilt 216 6cyl I do regret selling it and ben looking for another since I finally found a 1950 there good toys and they do make good street machines That just my thought but I like trucks more then I do cars too if that 52 or 53 is a good price I would pick it up the bed is no big deal you can replace it with a new reproduction bed thru american truck parts http://www.americanclassic.com/index.htm

Order their cataloge for that year truck, they have heaps of parts. Good cataloge and easier to look around than the website in it too.

I knew that anyway, I also knew the 5 windows were especially popular. it is a 1/1/2 ton or 2 ton but, is the cab the same of say, that of a 3100 or somthing? becuause as I said b4, it's the exzact same truck as the hidden valley ranch truck except the wooden bed frame has been skinned with plywood. and it's red, that and it's a 5 window cab.

John, I know nothing. haha. I know that the 5 windows are worth more than the one's without them but the truck that he explained are not worth too much. What I mean by that is that it's not like they are rare or worth tons of money but still pretty good. There are a few 50's dump beds or flat beds here out in fields but not any 5 windows. I doubt the 5 window one isn't worth MUCH more but the cab might be worth getting not the whole truck it's self, especially the shape Matt explained it's in. Who know's I could be completely wrong but I am just saying, it seems like a lot of work to me to get a truck like that just for the cab when you can search more and find a better one that's not in bad shape.
Oh well, at least it's a truck right? heh
