Forgotten Rod! Wadaya think?
I am a new member and I have my high school hot rod sitting in my garage. I am almost 30 now, just got married, and need to put a little varoom back under my foot. My rod is a 1966 Chevy Shortbed Fleetside pickup truck. The body is super straight and she isn't rotted out. Right before I went to collage I built up a 454 and shoehorned it in. I had a buddy of mine fab a 1 inch thick front motor mount and she sitts in there right. The body is in red oxide primer and has faded with age, but she still looks sweet and smooth. Right before I went off to collage I gutted the interior. I figured with that out, I wouldn't be able to sell it while I was away at school. Damn good thing too!! Collage aint cheap. Anyway, my wife and I have thought about throwing some money into it and getting it back out on the road. We don't have much to spend, but the other day I charged up the battery, changed the oil and gas (more like water!) and fired it right up. I need new wheels and tires though. Still the old six lug. I really want 15x10 steel wheels that I can put fact chevy caps on and raised white letters on and roll with pride. The chrome is great, and the supertraps are thundering again. Can you help a guy out????

We are going to have it out for sure this spring some time. I have driven it some since I dropped in the big block, but really just cruised out in the country to break it in. I live out in the middle of nowhere, so I just took it easy and racked up a few hours 10 years ago. I drove it about 20 miles last summer. I threw out the mothballs and cleaned out all the junk that accumulates in the bed of a truck when it sits in a garage for 10 years. It needed a bath and some fresh air in the meats, but she cruised out just fine. I didn't have the doors on though, and the supertraps run out just before the back tires. Without the baffles in, she sounds just perfect, but my head was pounding by the time I got home. I got on it just once, and she responded accordingly. Cruising at 30, she'll break em loose so I think the money spent so far won't go to waste. I cannot wait to hit some of the local cruise nights this summer!!!!

I like the wheels, but they aren't what I am looking for. I want just plain jane steel wheels with a fairly deep "dish" to them, and then put baby moon size caps on them. I would like to stick some sort of old GM small size cap and then paint the wheels either John Deere yellow or white. Something to brighten it up a little. I have had about 10 of this body style truck over the years, even a few from AZ, but I have failed to hang on to a good set of unmolested steel fenders. Being in IL, ALL of them are junk. Do any of you know much about the fiberglass fenders out of the box? I figure they are junk, but I hope I am wrong. I wouldn't even mind some unmolested steel fenders if the brackets on the back are workable.

Long story, it is my old truck, I traded it off with a fresh 468 bbc I built and turbo 400 to a friend (plus lots of $) for his 427 cobra, after a 1000 or more of these BO's he poped the trans (go figure), got into money troubles, sold the motor and put the truck up, another friend of mine ended up with it and it's sitting at his shop now, I'll check tomorrow and see if it's for sale, I've already been PMed about it so I'll tell that person first, if they don't want/buy it I'll post the price.Objects in the mirror are losing
