You get a better parking spot if you enter the show. Spectators have to walk to the show. The bigger the show the longer the walk. It's worth the $5.00 (average here) entry fee just for the convenience.

most of the car shows in my area " except for the old well established ones " suffer from lack of participants and dry up after one or two events .. they all want to make a killing on entry fees and suffer poor participation .. i offered many times to bring my stuff and put in on the stage if i could do so without paying the entry fee and told them dont bother judging my junk ,, i just wanted to help field a good show " No No No they said they couldn`t make money if no one paid .. i said " you aint making none anyway cause nobody is here .. you got to have something to " show " in order to have a show ..
iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

Hoss doesn't it make you laugh! They need your cars to get people to come to make money but they charge you to be there! It's sort of the chicken and the egg argument!
Bob you always come up with great stuff. Non illegitimis carborundum i.e.... don't let the Bas...ds grind you down, Semper Fi!

Hoss, you need to take a little trip up above the Mason Dixon line. We have two, once a month shows that have been going on for years. Each draws 600 to 800 vehicles, there is no registration fee, and is open to all years and types. No bitching about other peoples cars and very few A-holes. Got a DJ and plenty of good food (hosted by an established car club and an Amish market. Club makes it's money selling 50/50 tickets.

The only joke is that Gibbon claimed to sell a quality product after Kyle took over. Unfortunately, the joke was on me.

Search "Gibbon" and read some of the threads.

But, Jack, your car is a beauty - regardless of the fact that you had to totally redo everything on it. (Then there are Brookvilles...........)

Reading these posts has gotten me thinking. I have noticed, that along with the "vintage" or "rat rod" (your choice) fad, has come a division in the hobby. I don't remember another era since the fifties, where there has been so much criticism of different building styles.

It brought to mind an old saying: "Whatever you put into life, is what you will get back out of it." Another way of phrasing this might be, "If you harshly criticize another group, guess what you will get back?"

Personally I have always seen a few simple reasons to customize old cars:

For performance... For attention... for artistic expression... I never saw rods or customs as a way to express contempt for the establishment, or to try to intimidate builders with less financial means.

To me, rods and customs are "rolling art"....and a powerful extension of your own body, that can be a thrilling experience!

I have been in the paint and body business long enough to know that both metal and fiberglass bodies have advantages, and that a person can express themselves by doing their own work, or through a hired craftsman. Either way, they are turning their "vision" into reality.

I could not give a crap if it's 'glass or metal, or who did it. If it is entertaining to see,... or exciting to watch or ride in,... I will enjoy it immensely, and find a mutual passion that the owner and I obviously share.
