    53 Ford F350 Project

Figured I'd start a buildup thread on my current project. A 53 Ford F350 Dually. Plans include 1 ton IFS, 455 Olds TH400, hydorboost and possibly an extended cab conversion.

Just in the process of tacking stuff together to see how it fits.

Start here. In the field for 20 years.

    Hack the frame off

    79 C30 IFS

455 Core, looks like it was made to fit there

Chev Hydroboost in the stock location.

Looks like fun I had those fender mounted turn signals on my '53 as well. I learned not too long ago that they were add on's from the dealerships when the trucks were sold new. I found that interesting.

6 months later, finally getting back to work on it.

Welding all finished, a coat of rustbullet on everything but the IFS, which still needs to be disassembled and painted.

Some spray on bedliner - need some more, doesn't cover like they say. Put the locker in the 14 bolt, so that can go back in tonight.

Yes, it's the front few feet of a 79 C30. The rear axle is out of the same truck. I like the big truck, just a pain to work on in a small shop.

Everything covered but the IFS. Next step is to put the back brakes back together and run all the brake lines. Need to save up a few $$ for some drop spindles for the front before I pull apart the IFS.

That ought to stop it. Making pretty decent progress this week. Rear brakes and lines are done, time to move up to the front. Lowering spindles and coils are on the agenda for a 4.5" drop.

What are your plans for a bed? A modern Flat Bed with a headache rack would be very cool in my opinion. Or maybe a cab over camper?

Planning on a Steel rimmed wood flatbed. Something that will look nice but still be usable.

Yeap, Dad's new 54 F100 had them too. They were dealer installed add on options. Fugly items they were. Our Ford Dealer put the rear ones on the same way on the rear fenders instead of putting them back on the edge of the box.

Went to the msra show and got motivated. 455 plan got scrapped when my neighbor offered me a 460 powered rust bucket for cheap.

460 installed - c6 is temp until I get a 2wd output swapped into it.

Project got back burnered for a year or so.

Spent last night cutting out the firewall for replacement with a 4" setback firewall. Got it cut out enough to set the new piece in and realize that I need to order a front floor section from DS to complete the job. Still have about 100 more spotwelds to drill out, but it's going fairly well.

The firewall looks great! Should make a lot more room under the hood. Always fun to get back on a project after it's been back burnered for awhile!
