Exhaust. What is best for a Poncho.

I dont wana get into my car i have asked this enough but no one ever replys. This is my first time on this forum. Anyways i own a 480+hp 70 Formula 400 RA III that is built up. It sounds nice now but it is quiet i want LOUD! What is the Best Header/Pipe/Muffler Combo that I could get? I want the kind where when it starts you say HOLY SHlT! and I mean i want LOUD. i know open headers is the best way but not legal in Cali.

    Hey John.
You got two nice cars there. Does daddy let you drive the Shelby or is he keeping it stored for you till you get older?

You can't be both loud and legal. Especially in California. A flowmaster exhaust system has a great sound but I don't know how legal it is in Ca. Exhaust cutouts would give you the open header sound so you can impress your friends and still be quiet enough to drive. I think theyre illeagal in all 50 states so they can still get you in trouble.

Some cops like to make an example of kids in loud cars and might have it towed and leave you on foot.

It's called profiling and cops all deny that they do it. My nephew shaved his head and couldn't figure out why he was always getting pulled over. He didn't believe it was his skinhead. When he let his hair grow back the harassment stopped.

Go to a few car shows and ask the guys with big block engines what they have for exhaust and ask to hear it. Most of them won't mind firing it up for you.

well, if your firebird is a real ram III car the stock exhaust manifolds are better than headers, just put some 2 1/2 in pipe on it with a good turbo style muffler or flowmasters i have an early pontiac 389 in my '55 ford pick up and run it on straight pipe witout much hassle........but then im not 17

lol yea i can take alot that u old timers cant :-P lol

Why would the original exhaust manifolds be better?

And Glass packs... we had some Thrush 36 inch glass packs on it when we first started it up. It sounded VERY loud when u would get on the Gas. Would u suggest Glasspacks or Flowmasters?
Or maybe if u can, glasspacks then flowmasters?

I have to laugh at this...... I'm 24 now but I remember only a few years ago My '67 Ranchero had to be ear blistering loud as well. What the hell is the cause of this imbalance in a teenager's head? Nowadays I prefer a nice mellow but not at all quite rumble with a good strong loud sound when you dump open the secondaries.

The flomasters sound like fireworks going off in a coffee can. I just can stand that patented 5.oL sound in a muscle car. THe best muffler I've found to sound deep like a REAL musclecar is the Dynomax Super turbo or the Flow tech Raptor (i think that's the name) I have the Superturbos on both my 78 Fastback and the 74 Duster with 2.5" pipe. I can drownd out a cheeseball glasspack car with my mustang 1/4 of a mile away from where you're standing.

But if LOUD is what you want, put on 2.5" exh and get a pair of 14" Thrush Cherry Bomb glasspacks. I garuntee in about a week all the packing will be burned out and you'll have LOUD.

And if you paid any attention to my post I gave a suggestion or two as well. I just, out of courtesy, elaberated on how well the LOUD exhaust I had worked.. but I guess you don't ahve time for that.
