It's much easier to promise someone a "free" ride on the wagon than to urge them to pull it.

You almost make it sound fun, but I missed that whole party by just months. When I turned 17 they were still taking names, but had quit drafting people. Guys just a little older than I did go, and none of them has ever wanted to talk about it, and I long ago quit asking.
I recognize the freedom I enjoy was bought with the blood of those who have served in Viet Nam and other unpleasant places.
Its hard to find words that don't sound either sappy or trite when trying to say thanks.
On the other hand the flag is flying outside this house and the next generation here is fully aware that they enjoy a life that was hard won by many who have gone before. And they know which of their relatives, and which family friends, did serve.Steve@OldSub.com

Streets,
I never expected any body in CHR would recognize it. I had heard nothing about Seneca for years until about 4 months ago. It was a subject we were careful talking about. I suspect you know why. By coincidence, a relatively new friend of my wife mentioned that her husband had been an MP in a small base in NY. We started talking. He was there in the 80's. He said that it was an Indian Reservation now. That was a big surprise. If you know more I would be curious in hearing.
I barely remember the barge.
After I got to know them, the people there were great. It was a beautiful area packed with history, but had a lot more snow than this poor hillbilly from Southern Indiana would like.

Da NAM!!
Oh...Boy!! What fun!!
What I appreciate, guys, are the 'newbie' vets... just to see that patriotism isn't dead.
No, we didn't get much of a welcome, but that was ok with me. I'm a freak...I joined because I feel that it's the duty of anyone who is a real American citizen.
NOT necessarily to fight....just SERVE for cripes' sake!
Heh...started out as Lieutenant Fubar and got promoted (unofficially) to Major Fubar...
An eight armed salute to all of those in and out of uniform....even you jarheads!
If you need the answer, it's NOT a stupid question![William Daniel

I went twice. I was with the 1st Bn, 7th Cav, 1st Cav Division in 65-66. If you saw "We Were Soldiers" I was played by one of the extras. 69-70 I was with the Americal Division's 1st Bn, 20th Infantry (Duc Pho) and the 23rd S&T (Chu Lai).An Old California Rodder
