AMEN to that wingman9, tho, as u say, STILL not as much as they deserve but far better than we did. I'm of the opinion that as much as we malign the press sometimes, they account for MUCH of the improvement in the way ALL vets are treated. They have done many an in depth as well as scathing review of the way vets are treated over the years since i cam home from nam.
BTW, even if u didn't actually get IN COUNTRY in NAM ur still a NAM vet IMHO, welcome home n thanx from one vet to another. Tho I volenteered for both the army as well as nam and tried to survive 1 6 month tour extension but didn't I do not feel myself or anyone of like military experience is any better or more patriotic than YOU are, after all, back then many folk broke camp for parts unknown when they got a draft notice, u answered and served with honor even in a dirty thankless job. Hats off to ya my friend.Dallas

ur more than welcome shop, my condolences about ur cousin and ur bro Mike my friend, may they rest in peace and i honor them for their service. But for the grace of GOD that could have been myself. My fathers's baby bro and MY elder brother who also served in nam; in fact, my Uncle Willis, my dad's baby bro was there at the same time i was and we actually had occassion to visit each other a couple time durin our tours, could have been either one of them as well. My Elder bro Fred was there from Jan 10, 1967 thru Jan 9 1968. I was cut short on my extension for 6 more months but he, my uncle Willis, remained there and served out his 2cnd 6 month extension which he signed on for bout 9 months after i got there. Altho no service in nam was safe, he did have it a lil better his last extension, he was a DJ for AFVN Radio( ARMED FORCES VIET-NAM) thru Febuary 1971, i was sent to Yokota Japan to the hospital on July 13, 1970, came home from there on July 30, 1970. After 45 days more of canvalescense leave I was assigned to Ft. Hood Texas. But for TDY's to Corpus Christi with the Corp of engineers shortly before i got out and a 90 day TDY to Norway for NATO trainin ops in 72, I spent the remainder of my active duty service at Ft. Hood with 1st Air Cav's 15th S and T HHQ air ops as a Turbine engined Rotory wing aircfaft Flight Engineer which is what i was in nam after AIT at Ft. Useless, errr, my bad, Ft. Eustis , VA...LOL. 6 years active, Dec 4, 1968 thru Dec 3, 1974. But for Basic, Jump school and AIT, i spent my entire military active service in the 1st air Cav. A,B,D and HHQ 229th Aviation Battalion in Nam, air support for 1st Air Cav 1/9 Art, Big Red 1 Infantry and 25th Infantry.Last edited by MrWizard455; 12-20-2010 at 04:28 PM.

Only one of four of us from the neighborhood to return from Vietnam. Hard to think about it.
