Don, I'm sorry to hear your not driving my car to much, just make sure you only drive to keep the tires from going flat from being parked to long. Like i said before I want to meet you and your sons. You never know when I get the urge to drive 15 hours for dinner and drinks...........LOL

Don it's a recpricating North South thing. In the summer, Floridians flee north, and in the winter snowbirds south! Most of the time I'm thankful where I live. But I sure miss the warm when it's cold! I've kept most of the reciepts on my build so far, I'll try to keep a running total! If you don't mind my asking about what did 3k evolve into?" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Isn't that kind of like asking a fat lady what she weighs?
I built this one for $1,700... back in 1976. I sold it in 1984 for $5,050. The car still exists (in Huntsville, AL) without the dummy blower and with different paint. Wonder what it's worth now?Jim

We all have our lot in life.........mine is bringing a little joy to Uncle Bob.
Well, I went over a little bit. (Maybe I should be a Politician with a statement like that. ) Ok, I went over A LOT. Mid way through I abandoned the original goal and decided to just do it a little nicer. I would have no problem saying how much I spent, but honest to goodness, I just don't know. I stopped keeping track because the last few months things got pretty hectic due to us rushing for Daytona and doing two cars. Some days I would stop at the hardware store and spend $ 50 or $ 100 on stuff, but half of it was destined for Don's T. I have tried to get a rough estimate in my head, but any number would be a wild guess. Maybe $ 12 to $ 15,000??
Jim, that little C cab was the deal of the century for you to come in at that figure. But then, you are a very resourceful guy and make lots of stuff others would have to go out and buy. I like it and glad it's still around.........that speaks volumes about how well built it is.

12-15K is quite good! I think after all the time you had in the build, it only made sense to do things thats were more expensive but made you smile in the end.
When I got married I made a Pencil post bed for my wife as a wedding gift. I was in college and on limited budget at the time, so instead of making the bed out of cherry, I used poplar for the posts and ash for the headboard and rails. I think it looks great, but it took six months to make, and we still use it today. I saved maybe 100 dollars on wood at the time! Lesson learned!
I'm just beginning to realize how much the truck is going to cost. One thing I'm also figuring out, is my mechanical and non existent welding skills, will improve drastically, as this project progresses, which again makes me ever so greatfull to have the help of all you guys who have Boldly gone where no one has been before!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I had no money at the time. You know the drill: house payment, car payment, new baby, etc. But I lived in a neighborhood where there were 8 or 9 hotrods in a two block radius. A friend of mine once commented that he felt like he should have a pit-pass to get into the neighborhood. Anyway, I traded welding and painting for parts to build that car. I fabricated everything I could, including the body. When I drove it to its first rod run, I had a total of $640 in it!
Heh, heh. If there was any beer on board back then, it was probably Miller Lite. If you could see the lettering more clearly, it says "Original Bunkie's Home Brewed Beer". My son's nickname, when he was little, was Bunkie and one of my hobbies was making home-brew - hence, the name.
Here's a pic of the car as it is now. If anyone sees this thing cruising around in the Huntsville, AL area, please have the owner contact me. They have changed their e-mail address and we lost touch.Jim

J.R. I'm a fellow home brewer, as well. Although I must say my production is down to 1 batch every 2 years or so, but the quality and technique is refined now! No more banana or funky taste stuff! I also got sick of washing bottles, so it's all keg set up with 3 and 5 gallon stainless steel soda kegs these days!
Matter of Fact, it's perfect weather for a lager right now....hummmm beeeeer!" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

I went to a local car show today and got lots of pictures. Normally, I end up taking only pictures of cars that interest me (fenderless hot rods mostly) but today I took pictures of lots of stuff that might have broader appeal to share with all of you.
I'm VERY slow posting, so please bear with me, it will take me some time to get all of these up.
First car is one I hoped would be there. It belongs to a friend of mine who built it in the late 60's and drove it to the first or second Street Rod Nationals in 1971. It is virtually unchanged in all those years, and shows some scars and bumps. However it is so cool because of being an unchanged survivor. I love these time capsules.

Then some guy came over and looked at my car and after shooting the breeze for a while he tries to tell me he is Dick LaHaie of Top Fuel fame. Yeah, sure like Dick LaHaie would come to this local show.
Actually, I'm kidding, it actually was him. He lives down here and has a gorgeous Merc custom. Paid $ 140,000 for it , so it better be nice.
Here are some pictures of it. In the one picture he is the guy in the tan T shirt on the right.

Some of us who are a little older may remember this car. It was in 40 different magazines over the years and was built in 1951-55. I remembered it being in bronze, and the new owner confirmed that was the original color. The original owner was his best friend and he died in 85. The man who owns it now is getting ready to do some restoration on it, but has turned down $ 200,000.00 for it. He said there is no amount of money he would take. It is just so cool to see this car in person.

I tried taking pictures of this good looking little black T, but some big dog got in the way. Dog was bigger than my 23!
I also took some pictures of a VW Thing for Hotroddaddy.
Thanks! It's the most metal forming I've done. I was wishing I had an English wheel and a planishing hammer.
