Thread: Project $ 3 K Is Underway

I'm heading to the shop, and building one of those butt kicking thingees will be my project today. Do you think Brian can do a CAD drawing for us.
I think Wison would have a market for those Buick drums, even if they were $ 400 each. I've seen a few go on ebay for $ 400 a pair, so for brand new, virgin drums, it would be worth it. I bet he comes in less, though. All of his stuff is pretty reasonable, considering. Actually, when you consider what '40ish backing plates, spindles, etc are bringing, plus the cost to install new wheel cylinders, shoes, and have the drums reconditioned, it makes more sense to buy his brand new setups.

Don ebay purchases really inflate prices. Its where i come to learn they have more money then brains. Now i'm not RICH but have been caught up in the its clean and i want it bids. Hence things still in boxes LOL
Also since i'm new and dont hit me . I was seeing more disc set ups then ol skool going on rods. The thing of disc being so much safer is what i was thinking. I know drums will stop just fine but they do heat and will fade at times right. That was a factor even for me since i drive in congested areas alot and brakes are used.

No question that properly installed discs are more efficient than properly installed drums. You don't see any high performance cars coming off the assembly lines anymore with drums, so there is a reason. But, being sort of a traditionalist, I just like the look of drums on certain cars better. With the light weight of these cars drums that are engineered well in the beginning, with new parts, and maintained can be made to work very well.
You also learn to give yourself some addition stopping room in heavy traffic, but we rodders tend to put lots of room between us and the other cars anyway, out of self-preservation.
But everyone's car should be built to look and perform the way they want, if you want discs, that is terrific and you are to be commended for wanting to build it to be safe. That is what's really important.

Don i know your building a very safe rod. Been watching reading and learning from the masters here. I know what you mean by more space. The stang will be factory drum and im sure there will be along distance between cars. In all reallity i will have to learn to drive them all over. So used to the disc and power even.
Dans old fin type is what i remember in the rod books and have to say they look great. If the time was different i would most likely go the same way. The availablity of the spindles and drums are not like it was in the 60's and 70's. I did a convience buy with my front end.
Maybe i can rumage thru your shop on the next one LOL.

I am a new member, and it took me three days to read through this thread. It is by far the best thread I have ever read from an internet forum. I feel as if I really know a few of you now. Congrates on a couple of sweet builds and the details here are great.

Welcome to the forum Rickomatic. Glad to have you here, and that you are enjoying our little get together. Yeah, this thread has turned into a little meeting place like the old general store.....lots of tall tales and just goofing off. It's like the Seinfeld Show of the internet.........all about nothing.
I'm gonna show Charlie. As soon as I get this air compressor licked I am actually going to do some work on the T again. Got the base for it made yesterday, now I just have to hook it all up and I should have more air than we need. (I hope)
From your intro, I think you are going to fit in around here pretty well.

I got 'em $ 29.95..........shipped in a plain brown wrapper. I couldn't afford Paris Hilton, so I just used Hilda Preston from down at the retirement home. With the bad lighting you ALMOST can't tell the difference.

Ol' Hilda, what a great sport she is! Proper lighting she could pass for Walter Matheau too but don't let me pop your bubble! Is she going to be possing with the T Itoldyouso when she's done?"Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"
I wanted to complain about this NZ slang business, but I see it was resolved before it mattered. LOL..
