    Okay Pops, here I go saving you money again!! All you need is a drill press, some cutting oil, time, and some of these (third item down);

Bob, that really looks good. I didn't know they made those. Thanks, I'll get some for the front and rear.

Pat, tape.........never thought to do that, but I sure will tomorrow.

Hotroddaddy....... I like that icing stuff too. My kid put me on to it. You don't get a whole lot of working time, like 3 minutes, but you can sand it in about 15.

i like the evercoat better. it sand out better or platinum body filler work very good to more time to work it out . if you cut a radius in a body spreader that will help on sanding

What do you mean, Pat. I'm not following you about the radius thing.

Yeah Z, I see you have a new project. I love that body style.

As I mentioned, get yourself a Speedway catalog. It will give you tons of ideas to do your Dads rod. I know what you mean about using someone elses money to build a car.................not as painful that way.

Well. time to go do some more filling and sanding.

    Don

PS: Bob, I ordered those buttons for the springs. Looks like I will be drilling 24 holes, 10 in front spring and 14 in rear. Guy on order desk says "have fun drilling the holes in spring steel" I see now why you said cutting oil and time. lol

Don---Take a plastic bodyfill spreader and trim it with your snips to this shape---then when you apply the mud, just force the spreader into the corner where the weld is that you are "prettying up" and bingo---instant radius.---Brian

Oh, now I see. Beats using my finger. I'm like you Brad, I needed a visual.

Just more of the same today, filled as many booboo's on the frame as I'm gonna. I want to drive this sometime in my lifetime, so it's time to wrap up the frame painting. It was too windy today, and lots of smoke in the air from brush fires down here, so I couldn't roll it outside to shoot another coat or two of primer, but maybe tomorrow. If that goes well, I am just going to keep painting and put the black on it.

We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Are you looking for show quality shine on your frame? I was more for the semi-gloss powder coat look on mine. With the frame showing more, I was wondering which way you going to go.

Don, I must commend you on being so meticulous on your prep work.

If you remember a while back I posted about the TP wiring harness in my T. I decided to go the easy route and just replace all the wiring so I bought a Rebel Wiring kit I saw on the HAMB, it seems to be very well done for the price, and super fast shippping. Anyway while I was jerking I mean carefully removing the old harness I realized that by removing a few bolt's, and the steering that by the way I just got done installing, I could remove the body to paint. My kids have been on me since I bought this thing to paint it, it is currently bright red, and I have heard the Santa's sleigh thing one to many times! This is where the pat on the back comes for you I have been slowly going over the body, and everywhere I look there is a small chip that was painted over before. I can sincerely appreciate the time you've put into just your frame, and I am truely happy I'm not going for the quality look that you are I'm 43 and I just don't have that many years left.

I have decided to spend some time this weekend, and figure out how to post some picture's on here so I can get some feedback on a few thing's, and to show that this thread has motivated at least one person.

    Thank's Ron

Brick: No, I am doing the frame and body in satin black. I've never had a car that color, and with the orange engine and suspension, I think it will be ok.

Ron: Sounds like you have yourself a real project going there. You better watch out, one thing leads to another and before you know it you are redoing everything. If you need help posting pictures, PM me, I am computer challenged, but can at least help you with that part.

Well, the late, great James Brown had a song that said "I'm black and I'm proud", but tonight I have revised that song a little. My song is "my frame is finally black and I couldn't be more thrilled." Yep, today I finally got it painted, and this is such a major hurdle to cross, because now I can start painting the suspension pieces and putting them on it, and also installiing the engine and tranny.

I wheeled the frame outside tonight at about 6:30, when everybody was gone from the complex, and shot another coat of epoxy primer on it to coat the bare spots I had created when I filled the imperfections. By about 8:00 o'clock, Dan came over to help me, and I am really glad he did. It was too much for me to do alone, plus he has a good eye for things, and was a real help in spraying some of the coats on.

We probably sprayed 6 light coats, because if you spray paint that has flattener in it too wet, it shines just as if you never put anything in it. So that is what we did, and the last two coats we backed away further with the gun, and got a textured finish to the surface. It was exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

We had to work with two halogen worklights, and surprisingly didn't mess up or get any runs. Here are some pictures of us working on it, and the final result.

Is this shade tree, or what..........working by flashlight to paint a frame. lol The surprising part is, we didn't get one bug or even a hair in it. There was no wind tonight, and for some reason no bugs were out, even with the big halogen lights cooking. The planets must have been in perfect alignment. lol

I also got a nice surprise today with respect to my front backing plates. Originally, I was going to use the ones on my '27, but when I changed my mind, I had to dig around in my parts stash. The 'set of '40's I grabbed sandblasted up to be pretty rough. Lots of pitting from rust. I shot a heavy coat of surfacing primer on them, but they were still pretty bad.

So I went back to my stash, and found a set of '42-'48 backing plates that had a super heavy coat of oil and grime on them, and when I popped one in the sandblast cabinet, it was so protected by all that oil that it was absolutely mint. The mate to it is just as nice, and these are the best set of backing plates I have ever seen. They really are suitable for chroming, and I may do that down the road, but for now I am going to paint them to match my suspension.

I have no idea where all the oil and dirt came from on these, maybe he drove on a dirt road they oiled or something, but whatever happened, it sure saved these from any rust.
