Don sounds like good dealings you had. We have all seem to buy way before we open and install alot of things in boxes . I have items i purchased for the stang years ago and still unopened.
I was trying to hold up but sometimes the price is so good you have to get it now and save .

Bob, you're right........what was I thinking???
The first call I made to Summit the guy was not quite as helpful as the final guy. He told me to take a die grinder and remove part of one of the fins, then holesaw a hole into the cover. He said " if you do it very carefully, it will be fine." I DON"T THINK SO.When I told him to pull up the picture on their website and count the holes in their own picture, he changed his tune a little.
Overall however, I have to say Summit is very painless to deal with. I put them right up there with Speedway in that regard. Total Performance is turning out to be a little bit of a disappointment. My Son paid for his '32 grille shell, grille, and Walker radiator about 6 weeks ago, and finally got everything but the shell. When he asked them when it might come, they said "we don't know." I think they keep their inventory very low and rely on their vendors to stock this stuff.

BTW Pops, I remember a while back you mentioned taking the Buick drums to a machine shop for drilling holes to match to the Wilson hubs. If you're going to do that again and you have a drill press you can save yourself a good handful of dough by getting one of these from Wilson. If I remember they're around $8.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Thanks Bob, I learned after the fact that this bushing thing existed. When I came home and told Dan the guy soaked us (me) $ 175 to drill 10 holes and turn the drums, he "mentioned" to me that we could have bought this little item and did it ourselves.I was just trying to move his project along and never in my wildest imagination thought the guy would soak us that bad. Live and learn.
For anyone else who goes that route, I understand this little doodad you pictured screws into the new hub and acts as a guide so you can squarely drill the needed 5 new holes into each Buick drum. All you need is a drill press. I guess you used this when you did yours, Bob ?
Also worth mentioning is that Wilson Welding is about to have available repop Buick finned drums. Added to their line of other great parts, this will be a real boon to guys wanting the traditional look. Original Buick drums are getting very very hard to find, especially with no fins broken off, etc.
Anyway, thanks Bob for the info, in case I or someone else ever does this in the future. (that sound you hear is me kicking my own butt)

I'm heading to the shop, and building one of those butt kicking thingees will be my project today.Do you think Brian can do a CAD drawing for us.
I think Wison would have a market for those Buick drums, even if they were $ 400 each. I've seen a few go on ebay for $ 400 a pair, so for brand new, virgin drums, it would be worth it. I bet he comes in less, though. All of his stuff is pretty reasonable, considering. Actually, when you consider what '40ish backing plates, spindles, etc are bringing, plus the cost to install new wheel cylinders, shoes, and have the drums reconditioned, it makes more sense to buy his brand new setups.

Very sad to hear this
