Hint; that's an old GMC logo milled in the aluminum cover.

The diamond plate "running boards" are, um...............interesting. Along with some of the "boiler plate" bracketry.

Hopefully he's not paying too much for this "interesting" piece.

Actually, buying is not the correct term, horsetrading/swapping would be more accurate. As for condition, the builder put it together quite a while ago, it has had very little runtime and it has been sitting for a while. Thus the rust and dust. Toby says it starts, runs, sounds very strong. Bob gave a very good hint. The Vintage is '52-'59. Streets was close but not exactly right on the huffer.

It is a GMC 302 cubic inch 6 cylinder, bored .060. Makes it about 310 cu in. The blower is a 3-71. He is supposed to pick it up next week, I'll be interested to see what he does with it.

This is definitely not your "bolt pieces together" hot rod!

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I don't remember any 6 cylinder engines having center bolt valve covers. I think it's a 4 like streets said.

    It's a 6 banger

It's definitely a 6 cylinder. Here's a link to a variation on the same theme.

I have seen another picture of the other side of it. There are six plugs. The motor family includes 228, 248, 256, 270and 302 cu in 6 cylinders. They are GMC Truck engines used from '52-'59

And a picture of a stock engine, you do have to look closely.

If you're interested in expanding your knowledge base, here's another good link. http://www.inliners.org/

And another picture of a dressed up 302 from a different angle.

    Thumbs up

Hey Stu..I knew it was a Jimmy cause of the water pump and stat housing...The meds I'm on for my wiped out knee is making reasonable thinking ....Just picked up a 302 this year along with the front half of a Deuce and a half...But I think I'll stick with the older 270..Plans are to fit it to a 1943 (rare) one ton GMC for fun in the sun..Going to keep the truck completely stock with the 270 dolled up a little and good sounding..........It's going to be a tribute to all the truck farmers that did their part in winning World War 11...
