    Hi Randy,
Stay Calm, it just may be a function of hibernation for some of us. I am trying to save expenses until I can work again this summer and afford some naugahyde interior so I am just painting the Luan interior panels with Behr housepaint. The local Home Depot matched good paint to some scraps of my body pieces cut out of the trans tunnel. It looked like a disaster at first because the paint looks pink when wet but after it dries it is a sort of dark plum color and while it is not a perfect match to the exterior color it looks better than bare wood. This kind of expensive Behr exterior paint will dry down to 30 degrees F which tells you something about the interior of my garage this month! Anything above 40 degrees F is positively warm and the panels I painted yesterday were dried hard this morning after some 60 degrees F yesterday afternoon followed by a cold night. The good thing about this approach is that it looks better than bare wood for now and the same panels can be covered by naugahyde when I can afford that.

Any forward progress is good progress Don. And that paint should help preserve those panels even later on! Now... about those pics!! Hmmm... How come Randy doesn't pick on you???

How about using this slow time when the shop is cold for a test, Don? Randy gave you excellent step by step instructions on how to start a new thread, and we have an equally informative instruction on how to post pictures - http://www.clubhotrod.com/hot-rod-lo...tml?highlight=
Maybe this would be a good time for you to start a new thread about your painted interior panels, and once the new thread is established, then you can post pictures and you'll have the whole package. Imagine, no more tagging on to existing threads, freedom to post anything, any time. You might become a thread monster!!

Gee you guys are desperate to see some meager half-baked interior pictures. Let me wait until tomorrow since I had to add some touchup second coat in places today and it needs to dry. Then I can remount the radio speakers and put the kick panels back in. Today I sort of gave up on the high quality idea for now and just put some simple vinyl covering on two panels at the elbow height of the front seat. Two days ago I also gave up and covered the rumble seat board with just a layer of vinyl. True it looks better than bare wood but it is clearly half-baked. You will probably be sorry you asked for the pics. I will probably have to keep this half-baked solution for a while, BUT I did buy and indian blanket so maybe that will cover a lot of trash? Realistically I need to find one of those strips that will accept staples in the middle and then cover them up with an insert strip but it needs to be about 1 1/2" wide to trim the back edge of the doors. Where can I get such a strip and in that width?

OK Rodger here are a few primitive pictures. I don't think this is worth a new thread. The simple "elbow pad" is just a single layer of slightlly paded vinyl on a Luan panel to cover the hole between the body framework and the "interior". Does the Indian blanket hekp the interior? Not much because there is little room for it. The RumbleTrunk is also very simple and the towel on the floor is wrapped around the windwings which have to be removed when the side curtains are in place. The "purple panels" look good from ten feet away but don't look too close! Tomorrow I will take some pictures of the new painted kick panels which are also dark purple but I have to reinstall them after the paint is dry. Someday the rumble seat will have better padding but it "looks" passable for the time being. You can see that I need some sort of strip along the edge of the door but it needs to be about 1 1/2" wide; where can I get such a trim strip?

    Don,
With all due respect, the point of my suggestion was not to see pictures of your interior panel paint job, but was simply to press you to try your hand at starting your own threads so that you can find things that you post later, among other things. It's not a big deal to me, so I won't mention it again.

Randy, I will look forward to you re-claiming your thread when the time is right

Don, Roger is right. If we all wish to discuss your topics, it really shouldn't be in Randy's thread. Just common courtesy.

And I am enticed to chat about your project!

I get it. Sorry to intrude. I was just mulling over all the receipts for my car build and the earliest dates are from 2003. I should have started a thread then but by now stages of my build are scattered over many threads so it is a little late to present a collection. Denny seems to have gone over to H.A.M.B., Brian Rupnow seems to have moved on and IC2 seldom shows up here so most of my old conctacts are gone. It just took me too long to get my car running but Randy seemed hospitable and his last response seemed to ask for some comment but I guess I am a Johnny-come-lately on this thread. Hey it is too cold now to finish my kick panels for a while so I won't have to rush to get a picture out anytime soon and they won't look purty anyway. Just for the Ford record I unloaded all my old Ford iron for a mere $200 (4" Merc crank, Merc rods, flywheel and two cracked blocks) so now I am totally "replica". Is there a Replica thread? Maybe I will start a new thread after all.

There used to be a song from the early "70's" that said, "It's never to late to start all over again", Steppenwolf, and it was a longtime favorite! Just like you and your car, please do start a thread, it would be great to see you and your "replica" have the space it deserves! ( you do know mine is a replica also right? )

Randy is usually a gracious host and gentleman but we are a diversion in "his" thread.

So YES! Please take a few moments a do a thread! (I'd like to chat with you)

    Don,
I agree 100%! The fact that you don't have any common thread to your build is kind of sad, but it is what it is! My '33 is a total replica, too, and in the ranks of the early "iron" there's more of us than originals. You bring a lot of good comments and questions to the forum, and they deserve to be in individual, topic based threads. I hope to see you posting often.

Hey Don, as I've said before, you're ALWAYS WELCOME to post your progress on this thread but like the other guys have said, there are lots of folks here that would like to see & follow a thread that's more specific to your car. It's way too easy for your stuff to get buried in this awesome messy one. What's that old saying, "Don't hide your light under bushel". Let it shine, let it shine!!

You've poured a lot of time, love, sweat & "old school ingenuity" into your car and it deserves it's own stage! We'd all like to come to the "show."

Of course, just because you start your own thread, doesn't mean you can stop visiting this one! I'll still need your comments, advice & encouragement as I continue with my "eternal project" '37!!

As for the title of your thread, include the make & year of the car along with something clever or interesting that's descriptive because that will facillitate the "search funtion" for the site. And you gotta keep your awesome signature, "Retired scientist/teen rodder"!!!

I was chatting with a friend on here and he asked about a build thread for my coupe. But I hadn't ever done one either but I think some of my "stuff" ended up in this thread... (maybe).

In any event it is a good time to razz R2 for allowing this project to languish into obscurity!

Sorry Randy.. we miss you buddy!

Haha, Mike!! You're right, this sorta became a build thread for my '37, your car, Dave's car and a couple others.....kinda flattering, kinda confusing but I'm always amazed that when the monthly reviews of CHR are posted, this thread usually remains in the top 3 of "most viewed".

It's true that it's been a while since I've accomplished anything on my '37. It waits patiently in my garage. There are a variety of "life" reasons why the delay but lack of desire isn't one of them! I love this car. My dad & I built it the first time when I was in college. It will one day ride again for sure!!!

In spite of the lack of activity on this thread, I still show up to CHR at least once a day and occasionally offer some smart ass comment or pertinent info.

A few months (or maybe a year by now! lol) ago I bought a new rear tail pan for the car. I cut out the old one but have yet to get the new one properly fitted. One of these days I'll probably start a new thread for that and appeal to all you who are master metal workers to walk me through the process of getting the best fit. Until then I'll just try to keep an eye on the rest of your projects.....
