    Rear end update....

Ok, while you guys are complaining about the heat, I'm actually getting some things done today... It's sunny and 66 here....but I don't wanna rub it in too much....

So, I finished welding mounting nuts onto my housing to hold the brake hose brackets, plumbed some new brake lines on the axle, snapped some photos for you guys, then took it all apart to paint it. This is that Eastwood Extreme Black Chassis paint or whatever it's called. It's supposed to dry for 48-72hrs before handling Oh well, I have other stuff to do anyway....

that looks like a pretty elaborate mount to connect the hard line to the rubber line. I guess I need something like that, but what is the purpose of big bracket welded to the rear where it looks like the union hooks on to?

If I'm reading this right. The connector allows the one feed from the master to branch over to both sides of the axle. Randy, am I right?

Hey 35Ford, I assume you're talking about the union that connects the lines from both calipers to the hose that goes to the master cylinder, right? If so, that is not welded on. There is a factory bolt tapped into the rearend housing that holds the strap attached to the "union". In other words, the "union" is just bolted on and as far as I know, that part came from the factory like that in '58. I can get a better pic of that part if you want.

The brake lines do look kind of elaborate I guess, with all the curves. The instructions in the kit said to modify the Mustang Cobra brake hoses to attach to a 3" muffler clamp that bolts to the housing tube. I didn't like the looks of that so I used someone else's idea to weld a nut onto the housing and bolt the hose bracket to it.

Do you have rear discs on yours? What did you use?

Hey, 35fordcoupe, I was just reviewing the pics again and in the one pic that is a wider shot of the whole rearend with the new lines on it, what you might be thinking is a large bracket by the "union" could actually be the metal table leg in the background. Please let me know if that's the case....;-)

Yes Mike.....(aren't you glad I resisted the temptation to add a letter....), you are correct. I explained it in my response to 35Fordcoupe.....I think...

OK - my turn for a short rant and rave. I just installed my 'fancy' Pacific Western Mighty (NOT!!)wiper motor a little while ago - and the @#$%@#$ thing fried after 2-4 strokes while testing. That's $115 down the toilet. I just ordered a $29.95 universal motor from Speedway which should be here early next week. DAM' DAM' DAM' it all. I do have to say that the wiring did look a bit puny so maybe it's just another POS that gets foisted on street rodders

Randy - I do like those brakes!!

Also, I moved the rear end forward 1/2"to3/4" so it does now look a bit better as far as being centered. This is all the adjustment that there was left on the 4 bars. I might even let it go at this point (until it bothers me, that is)

Do you not have any recourse on the wiper motor? Had it too long to send it back?

Thanks for the kudos on the brakes. I'm anxious to see if they actually work!

Glad you got your rearend moved forward. It's not good when it sticks out too far.... Now, you have to post more pics of it so we can tell you if it's enough......

No recourse on the wiper motor - I've had it for a couple years. Those universals will work forever even though they aren't the best looking

The diff - it still should go forward another 1/2"-3/4" but I'm also starting to run out of drive shaft slip yoke That's when things get expensive, so it might stay that way.

It's coming off the stands tomorrow and I'm going to try to get my NY safety inspection done that's now 3 weeks overdue. The W/S wiper on an 'A' roadster was an option anyhow, so no big deal there with it missing.

When's the next good swap meet out your way? Maybe I could make a "business" trip happen?!?!?

Sorry to learn of the wiper motor. I think the one I have is gonna be toast also. It just doesn't seem to have the beans to work well. It really struggles and since I've had it for 6 or 7 years....

I hope the stance is "good enough" Dave and you get to ride around this summer! Maybe I'll get to see it in Burlington????

The next Longbeach swap meet is Aug. 8 and Pomona is Aug 15. I've never been to the one in Longbeach but one of the other guys posted some pics from it on here recently. I think a "business" trip to SoCal sounds like a great idea!!!

They have those 2 swap meet/shows quarterly. I'll check my schedule for October and see if that's feasible for either of us.....could be a blast! and I could call you MIKE_ in person and see what happens....

Dang, you just love to push that button! Yes, let's try to put something together! Not sure how fast we can make it happen but, I'd love to see your ride in person!

Ok, Mike, I'll leave the button alone..... I certainly mean no harm or offense, just being a little ornery, I guess. Perhaps I have MSS (multiple syllable syndrome)! I tend to add an appendage of some kind to most of my friends with one-syllable names. A huge, bi-racial buddy of mine at my gym (was a body guard for Koby Bryant and guys like that) whose name is Pete. He calls me RandY and I call him PeteY.....he hasn't squashed me yet. Adds an extra rhythm to the exchange of names....or whatever. Tom becomes Tommy, etc. etc. Silly perhaps. And, I can certainly understand how adding a "y" to your name can inadvertently compare you to some things you might not want to be compared to.....e.g. the Life cereal kid, etc.
So, from now on you will just be Mike to me.......unless, of course, I just can't help myself!

Have a great Saturday, my friend!!! Hope you can figure out a way to get out here sometime!

Rand (just showing solidarity by leaving off the "y")
