I ended up using Dynamat - simply because when I added shipping in to the price and one seller had free shipping, the price almost equalized. Is it the best? Heck most of it is made out of the same materials with maybe one with better stickum or a wee bit of difference in thickness. And shipping that stuff - can get expensive for not much coverage as it is very heavy/sq foot.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Just looked at shipping for my replacement 185* rear springs and spacers - from two different Midwest sellers, Speedway for springs and Hoerr for the spacers, appear to be on the same 8:22PM UPS truck from Buffalo to the local distribution center. Now, let's see if they really get delivered in the snow storm tomorrow I polished up the wheels today and will do my rear end tomorrow (TCI screwups have really cost me a bunch of time as well as bucks. Time - not a big deal, bucks - painful)Dave W

Dave - I never see Dynamat described as for anything but sound and another layer - Dynaliner or something seems like it needs to be added for the thermal properties. Is that right or am I not understanding?
Thanks for the other options guys! How much did you guys use? I know it will vary, but I have no idea what to start with..'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

You are correct, but almost all the other products claim the foil surface is for thermal control. I think "they" try to get you to buy into "the package" as it were. I'm sure adding another layer would add insulation value, but how much is enough?? Only you can decide that. Just the short "rides" I've taken already, this coupe will be far cooler than my 67 Fastback Mustang EVER WAS!
I simply measured the floor pan and multiplied by 3. Worked out almost perfect, almost a 1/2 sheet left over. And I did inside the doors, up the firewall, everywhere inside!
Dave, it must be a lonely life up there in the great woods of New York... And I'm always amazed how you speak so openly in regards to playing with your rear end again! And your waiting for plain brown wrapped packages too! I hope your friend arrives today!

I have quite a variety of "things" for heat/sound. They seem to work, but with a roadster, sometimes kinda hard to differentiate.
Anything vertical has Dynamat as the underlayment. This will take away the tinny sound. I made no attempt to cover everything as all I wanted to do is change harmonics. You hit the side of my car with your hand, the sound will be a dull thud. Then for insulation, I'm using a foil coated ceramic pad that I bought from Juliano's. This is cemented to the Dynamat, particularly the fire wall area. Again, it's a roadster, so the sides - not gonna help much with no top. The floor was where I concentrated most of my efforts. I scrapped the original Brookville floor (actually sold them at a swap meet) and had a 16ga steel sandwich made up with half inch square tube as the fill for reinforcement and mounting points for seat belts. The area was filled, again, with ceramic mat. I then put another layer of mat on top along with half inch Volara for carpet padding. I do not hear my Flowmaster's nor do I feel their vibration. I also have some stuff with glass micro-spheres that I sprayed on the pass. compartment, but while it seems to help, probably unnecessary though it does do a good seal.Dave W

I purchased off ebay a sealed beam conversion kit from the early 40's but its still 6 volt . Never did check the bulb size maybe a modern one will fit ??
If it don't I do like this idea so much better .

Bobby - glad you surfaced through the snow and cold. Sounds like you are doing a little playing with your car. Me, between snowstorms, a little - that is when not swingin' a paint roller to my wife's "encouragement". March 15th used to be my normal first day out with which ever car, but doesn't look like it this year. April 15th in tune with the tax man???Dave W

I don't belong here since I have a plastic roadster with a SBC but I find Dave/IC2's details helpful. I just want to say that while the trees are still totally bare and the mornings are still in the 30 F temperature range, we now have a few flowers jumping up here in central Virginia so I will be checking the thermometer in the garage. With a fresh attitude, wiring the '29 just can't be that bad. All I have to do is check it again before I give it the smoke test! A Model A restorer just three houses down on my street has a heated garage and has been working all winter. I am going to look into his heater arrangement because in the past he has turned out a whole restoration over a winter while I am hunkered down in the house. Twice I have had horrendous sinus illness from working in a cold dusty garage and I plan to avoid that in the future so I am interested in how my neighbor heats his restoration garage. This year January was almost a psychic experience with a feverish head cold and body aches that just would not go away for almost the whole month so Spring will be very welcome here! There was an optimistic "Flower Show" in Richmond on February 12 (!) and it was a "must" for my wife so I went along and the best part for me was one of the Florists who had a 1930 Ford Sport Coupe as a driveable restoration. Sometimes I wish I had a real steel "A" because they are so simple mechanically (except for the lousy brakes), then one could envision a counterbalanced crank and pressurized oil pump with a high compression head and a 3/4 race cam and just be satisfied to make it run! Hey, how about the snow in Los Angeles!

I don't think any of us around here shun 'glass cars, Don . Hang in there it should be about 60* today! I've been trying to work through the cold this winter (mostly outside ) because with any luck we'll be driving this summer. The biggest hurdle probably being the DMV since there is no numbers on the car and no proof of ownership for a car in the family for 50 years
It's good to see you around..I'm looking forward to some updates on the A.'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

You belong as much as anyone else Don !!! My feeling is, that if it didn't come out of Henry's "shop" it ain't "real", so the many running around saying I've got a real steel car is bull! Dave and I have spoken of this a couple times and we agree it's all bull! There are many topics that decide why you own what you build, financial and availability being probably being the 2 biggest choices! And what really busts my buttons is the knucklehead saying his car is "real", then he cut's it up and creates something that Henry and Edsel never envisioned! It ain't real anymore! IMHO!!! That's what is so great about this site! A lot of tolerance and acceptance to others in the hobby! Stepping off the soapbox now!
Sorry to hear about being ill. Hope your feeling better now and like you I'm close but not close enough!
I missed any story about snow in L.A. and it's funny because I'm near San Francisco as I type this and completely missed this event! I guess I'm working to hard!!

Don - what do you mean that you don't belong??? Good grief, we don't hear from you for months and.......... OK with that said, the only place that you might have a problem is the HAMB - and while I am a member, do not necessarily agree with their way of doing business. Here - absolutely.
Sounds like you and Eastern VA weather don't agree. I guess you wouldn't like it here in the normally frozen tundra of the Northeast since we still have a couple feet of snow, including in my front yard and today at 18*F an hour or so ago.
Get some warm days and get back into that garage - and heat, a catalytic heater might be your salvation. Not really cheap to buy, but most are run inside without any outside exhaust venting - http://www.amazon.com/Camco-57351-Ol.../dp/B000EDQR8M
There is also a 24 page gov't paper, tho a bit old, you can read by Googling 'catalytic heater' that spells out any CO dangers; www.cpsc.gov/library/foia/foia05/os/co03.pdfDave W
