Sanded all day today and a bit more to do tomorrow.. Then another "light" coat of primer. If it looks okay, it'll turn blue probably thursday.. As long as it stops raining too!
    Gotta keep it light

I'm "assuming" you have done the final fill, heavy body primer, guide coat and 600/800 sanding is commencing and your bicep is now 19" around like mine was after final sand on the '31

As far as rain - I'll trade for the 3" of white stuff we got today

Keeping it light!! OH, that's what we'll call it!

YES, I am so sick of sanding that car!!! My arms are just knotted bundles of flesh after these many many weekends and week nights. I don't know how some of these guys do this for a living !?!? I have a new found respect for bodymen! I can't and couldn't do it for a living! NO WAY!!

I did feel "vindicated" sort of today. After priming over the weekend I was really unhappy with the finish and disappointed with the results. I wasn't overly concerned since I had to sand it back anyway! I asked a friend over to look at it and he suspected water and my gun setup were the culprits. So I added another dessicant dryer and a new hose and reworked my spray pattern and lowered my pressure to 30 psi static and 20 psi dynamic. WOW, what a difference! Made the gun "come alive" and really gave ma a finish to be proud of! If that's just the primer I can't wait for color!!

Tomorrow I am going to jamb the car and I unfortunately have some "life business" to get in the way for a couple days but, I think friday the weather should be right and I am gonna hit it hard! I'll be 1 day behind my original schedule but the wife will be happy and that's what matters! So if she's happy, then I can go play in the sandbox!

Oh, and I gotta say to Dave, that remote supplied air system is the BOMB!! Now that's the way to paint a car! NO ODORS, NO PAINT on SKIN! dragging the hose gets a bit tricky but that's minor! And the HVLP guns are the best too! No real overspray to speak of and hardly any residual around at all!

Today I re-did my priming with the Devilbiss Finish Line gun not the Sharpes, and the second coat only consumed 40 ounces of material! And I didn't run the exhaust fan (forgot to turn it on!) and there wasn't any "cloud" in the air! After I had started cleaning the equipment I realized my mistake with the fan so I went a turned it on for a few minutes, "just because"... And I realized it was basically pointless. So I shut it off. I then realized I was putting the paint on the car, not in the air!!!

Great stuff, Mike!!!! I'm so jealous!!! Wish mine was that far along!!! Just curious what you're calling a "remote supplied air system"? Please 'splain....

I bought from Dave a setup that uses a turbo fan and pushes air into a hood. You put the fan outside the area your painting in and you get nice clean air and no breathing in any fumes! Works great! When the time comes to paint yours, you can borrow it, just pay shipping both ways. That may be a bit expensive as it's rather heavy. But, I would definately find one and use it!

I thought you would like that gadget - it sure is nice to be able to breathe after a day of painting plus not see that crud when you blow your nose for a week after.

Good grief, Mike - what kind of pressure were you spraying with that you had to "lower" a FL3 to 30psig?

I LOVE that gadget!!! I was only 8 : 10 psi higher! (and that's STATIC psi!) Dynamic is 10 psi less.
And using the 1.3 gun today, I lowered it another 2 psi! Pics to come later, I'm tired!!! Clearcoat tomorrow... we don't have an emoticon for exhaustion,

Hmmmm....I think there were more paint fumes coming through that mask than you thought!!

It's looking great!! Can't wait to see what the clearcoat does to the color.

Bobby, you can't just say you're making changes to the A without being more specific! Inquiring minds wanna know!

Mike - gotta say that is a bright blue. Gotta see it after the CC. Should be great.

I hope you pulled the masking off and will re-mask - there is always a possibility of lifting edges after an overnight dry, especially if it's cool.

Randy - it's probably not the fumes but samples of the Panther P@#$ he was drinking

NAH, no paint fumes under the hood.. Just exhaustion! My right arm wants to fall off!.. The pictures don't really show it right.. While I was spraying it on today it popped into my head that it's really more like the blue from Sunoco or Gulf if I remember right.. One of them had an orange & blue combo and this reminds me of that blue..

I've never heard of the masking tape pulling. I've left the heat on in the shop so the temps have been steady this whole time. So hopefully that helps it stay in place. We'll see..

And I won't even touch a beer 'til Sunday... Then, WATCH OUT!
