Install a sbc 350
Can anybody tell me what modifications are needed to install a smb 350 in my 66 Tempest? I know people have done it. We put the block in and it was hitting the firewall. Also what headers would I need. Help!!

It had the original 326 Pontiac. I was told the frame is the same as a 67 Chevelle.

The body shell is essentially the same too. Find a Chevelle with a small block and get the engine mounts from that.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

So basically it is all in the motor mounts. I suppose then I should use 67 Chevelle headers too.

I installed a small block in my 65 Tempest years ago. It had a six cylinder in it. No, the OHC six came along in '66. I found a '64 Chevelle in the bone yard (Victory, for those of you in Chicago). I got the brackets off of the frame. 'A' Body frames are all the same, so if you can find one of those you're in luck. I hear there are aftermarket brackets available, but I've never had to look for them. Yes, Chevelle headers fit just fine. I got lucky and found a set of Hooker Super Competition headers, never installed, at the Chevy/ Vette fest here for Fifty Bucks.
Thanks guys! One more trip around the sun completed. Lots of blessings and things to be thankful for (like still being able to type this message!!) Here's to us "over 70 guys.." Glenn
