I wouldn't use muriatic acid, way too corrosive. I was talking about phosphoric acid

Acids are nothing to play around with, they can hurt you.
If it get on your hands - it starts burning pretty fast.
Water rinse takes care of it though. There is no limit to what a man can do . . . if he doesn't mind who gets the credit. (Ronald Reagan)

I have a question. I have headers on my ACVW trike that are polished aluminum coated over steel inside and out. I'm glad I bought the top of the line brand!
They are now 2 yrs old , and I keep it covered all the time. They are full of rust freckles, Will soaking them in Vinegar remove the rust spots, and not harm the finish?
They come completely a part and will lay flat, so I can bag them with something. But what?
Thanks PatHemiTCoupe
Anyone can cut one up, but! only some can put it back together looking cool!
Steel is real, anyone can get a glass one.

Muriatic acid is not good as a rust remover. It causes "Hydrogen Embrittlement" Just like it says, it puts hydrogen in the metal and therefore makes it brittle. 7018 welding rod, sometimes called Lo Hy rod, low hydrogen, is used to stop the weldment from being brittle.

i used muratic acid to help clean the scum off a buddies boat a long time ago, the boat was on a trailer in his driveway, i was working away with a very long handled brush cause i knew the stuff was pretty strong . i stepped in a puddle of it on the concrete never thought much about it just on the soles of my running shoes .
after a while i thught i could smell something, my shoes were smoking ruined a good set of nikes that day.

....Ok, I went to a Napa Auto Parts Store & the guy said several of the local mechanics shops asked him to carry a product called Rust Treatment that's made by Permatex, item # 756-1671. So I tried it and it worked great! .... As per instructions I just sprayed on three light coats & let it set for 24 hours. The next day the center section had a dark black tint to it but NO rust!! THANKS AGAIN Everyone! Bill
