    Speedway Track T

Has anyone here built the Speedway Track-T? It would be my first kit car build. I have worked on cars(my own), but never built one. I like the looks of that car and am intrigued by the V6 powerplant. I just ordered the instruction manual which hopefully, will be here this week.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

While I haven't seen Speedway's kit, I have seen Total Performance' version at their booth in Daytona, last November. I imagine the two are pretty similar.

Total's looked pretty good, actually, and althought the price seems initially higher, it appears you get some expensive additions, like suspension, steering, etc. You would have to sit down with a calculator and see how the two compare.

Not trying to promote TP, but I see you are in Florida, like me, and TP has two locations here now, which MAY save you freight. I don't know what their policy is on that, but Mickey has delivered a body and parts to me at no charge at shows.

In any event, either one would make a cool little rod, and a great way to get on the road. J Robinson is doing a thread on a track T now, which should give you a wealth of info too.

Having built a TP bucket can attest to the fact that they are exactly as they say that they are. I looked at the Speedway version but felt that they didn't have the "stance" that the TP has plus Wallingford, CT is only a 2-3 hour ride for me. This was my car so you can see what they look like finished.

I have sent Total Performance several emails asking questions about their Track-T and even posted questions on their bulletin board. I have not received any responses to either. So I will go with the Speedway kit.

Why not give them a call - just don't go off PO'd. I have found that there are several SR companies that really don't monitor their emails very well - and it is a toll free call: 800-243-6740.

IMHO the Speedway kit tho OK, may disappoint you, but...... it is your perogative and $$$$ !!!!

I've found that same problem with Total Performance.........the only one I could depend on there was Mickey himself. Some of the others that answer the phone are lets say.......... less than enthusiastic or knowledgable. Don't know if he has a people problem or what, but even after my Kid had paid for the '32 grille and radiator assembly, he couldn't get any straight answers on when it would be shipped. Two months later it came, after all the other stuff was here.

Speedway seems to have that aspect nailed down much better IMO. Like when my empty box showed up a couple weeks ago............no problem, they shipped a replacement immediately, and it came the next week.

Another problem with TP is that it seems they stock only a small portion of what they carry, and rely on their vendors to make stuff as they sell it. Everything we get from them comes in some other vendors box, or has some other vendors name somewhere inside. That leads to delays and out of stock situations often. But Mickey is a h*** of a guy, and his personality overrides those problems sometimes. In other words, I tend to forgive some of the issues because I like him personally.

I'm not "P.O.'d" It is just that I travel a lot(pilot) and can't always get to a phone, so I use email quite a bit. I will have to depend on the company to answer back with questions in this manner. If TP doesn't respond to a potential client for a fairly good sum of money, how are they going to respond to a question down the road?

I don't get mad at companies that don't answer, I just shop somewhere else. I don't lose a bit of sleep over it.

    Don,
I would only talk to Mickey after a couple of ho-hum experiences with others. working for him. Also when his daughter Lisa ran the place, we reached a good working and by name understanding. Somewhere I have some photos of me cruising the York Fairgrounds with both daughters in my 'bucket.

Regardless, the TP product is good but I do have to agree that Speedway has Customer Service down to a science - it's just that I don't like their bucket stance - it looks. IMO, 'wrong'.

Yep Dave, you are right about dealing with Mickey. One time I told him I was getting some runaround, and he said "Oh, NEVER talk to ___________, talk to ________ instead." I wondered why he kept ____________ around at all !!
