new build thread
Been lurking here for a while. Finally have my act together to build my first hot rod. 48 isn't to late to start is it?...kidding
After much studying, looking, browsing, listening, I have decided to buy the 1927 "Track T" from Speedway.
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/4010...emNo=TrACK%20t
This uses the running gear from a Pinto. I think it would be a fun car to build and something a bit different.
I just purchased all the running gear from a 74 Pinto and will pick it up on Saturday. Was amazed how hard those were to find, but Miami is not exactly a Pinto sort of town.
The plan is to build/rebuild the engine, transmission and get all the parts ready to install, then order the kit.
I am sure I will have a billion questions to ask during the build and will try to post pics as much as possible. I do have the Track T instruction manual but it does not have a lot of detail.
I'm as giddy as a school boy before his first date.

Welcome aboard!
Sounds like a good project. I don't think you can go wrong with the 27.
If I was starting over on mine, I would get the 27 just for the extra room.
Keep us posted.

Welcome to CHR, AK. The 27 looks like a great project and a sweet ride when completed. The pinto drive train should be more than enough power for the car plus a real gas miser to boot. Looks like fun to me, especially in warm clime.

If you check around you'll be amazed at how much stuff is available for the pinto engine. Look into fomula ford and other circle track venues. Used to be a place called Racer Walsh here in so. NY that was very good. Might even find stuff at Racingjunk.com to put a little more juice into it. Hank

The Thunderbird turbo coupe and the Ranger 2.3 are also a good source for Pinto style power, and much easier to find.
Welcome and keep us updated.

Can someone who has experience with this engine recommend a good rebuild book? I have found several, but maybe someone with more experience has a recommended book.
update....found this one, this should do the trick.

AK, I'm excited for you. This is going to make you a nice rod, and is a perfect way to do it. I think it will be very good for you to do a build up thread on it, with lots of dialog and pictures, to show others what is involved in making one of these Speedway cars for themselves. Please do that. I have had a blast doing my thread, and J Robinson and the others seem to be enjoying theirs too. It will keep you moving .
Maybe November of 2008 we will see one more Florida hot rod at Turkey Run?? (I said 2008 because this year would be pretty tight getting it done)

Alright! Another build thread. Welcome to the fray. Putting my progress on this site has kept me moving on my project. If this is your first build, you have come to the right place. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who can give you help and advice.
48 too old? Ha! You're just a young whippersnapper; Don and I are a couple of the older generation around here, I think.Jim

With $3.00+ a gallon gas, that little four-popper rod is a pretty smart choice. Keep them pics a-comin!
