Its probably a coincedence that he got sick but when I seen pics of the vault the car was in there was a sewer pipe real close and I am wondering it that was the fault for the vault filling up with water. Jeff

That's something no one thought about. Who knows what germs could have been growing down there over the past 50 years. That would be a very strange twist to this story. Look at Legionnaires disease........supposedly it came from air conditioning ducts, or something like that.
Don
Where doLegionella bacteria come from?
The Legionella bacteria are found naturally in the environment, usually in water. The bacteria grow best in warm water, like the kind found in hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, or parts of the air-conditioning systems of large buildings.Last edited by Itoldyouso; 06-23-2007 at 10:37 PM.

Thats funny you should mention that don, i was telling my wife about it , and being the super nurse, her first thought was , what if some disease from the fifties got trapped in there, but dissapeared in the last fifty years, then no one would be immune anymore, then when they cracked it open ,out it came, and she also pointed out that bacteria loves warm , moist environments, so who knows what might have grown in there? this could be the next epidemic, the sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Who knows. As most know I was there.....(not in the vault of course). The one thing that did strike me (or rather DIDN't strike me) though was thatever ever they did to prep the car for display there was no apparent smell. I was within 4 or five feet of the car when it was displayed at the convention center. I would have at least expected some mustiness or something.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

Mike, If you get sick, maybe you and Boyd could share a hospital room. :-)~

I would think if no others were affected except just his crew of 4 or 5 people, the cause of their sickness would be some good old Tex-Mex that didn't set well with the boys.1951 Chevy 3600 Long Box

All sorts of crud can grow in wet holes like that one. I used to have to clean out sump holes under some large outdoor machines that I helped to maintain, and we had to suit up with respirators and shoulder long rubber gloves, and if we got wet, we had to change our clothes, and shower with detergent. Those holes collected rainwater runoff, and had solvents, oils, and "who-knows-what-else" in them - dead critters, once in a while. It's not too surprising to hear that Boyd and his crew are ill.

Didn't someone mention that when they popped the lid there was a very foul odor? I saw a picture, I think, where the workers where holding their noses while pumping out the water.
Has anyone heard if Coddington and his people are now ok, and maybe just had a case of the flu?
Don
Merry Christmas ya'll
