How cool an idea is this?! Original though??

All right guys, I had an idea the other day that I thought was damn clever and at the risk of it being stolen before I get to implement it I thought I would run it by ya'll to see if 1. it was as cool as I think, and 2. is it original

on the 51' Effie we were discussing the overall paint scheme, cosmetic modifications etc. One of the dilemmas is the lack of chrome from the door handle back. We aren't putting a rear bumper on it, going to a roll pan instead. The exhaust is getting moved to come out in front of the tires under the running boards. Then the great idea hit me!

---We are going to lock the tailgate in place (plan was for a couple of tack welds) so that we don't have the chain, Rick doesn't like it banging against the body and messing up the paint, and neither of us like it with the plastic or rubber sleeves. Then I got this one, why not put the chain in place, get it exactly how we want it and then weld all the links in place, take it off and have it chromed, then put it back on. It will look like we put chrome chain on there, and unless somebody actually touches it they won't know that it is solid and not functional.

    Is that brilliant!?

Thanks Denny, that pic gave me a good laugh, and I just got done reading the signs you're getting old. actually the last one is slightly frightening, at only 30 I didn't htink I'd be on the list. but the mr. clean is me. I hate to start a project without first cleaning the shop, cost me months this winter actually because I could never get it clean enough to get going. Problem solved now that Rick is back, he hates a clean shop, says nothing is getting done if it isn't messy.

I should have started the day out with this, chuckles are the best breakfast.

For what it is worth, I think it is a good idea and will look good.

Just don't make a steering wheel out of any leftover chain!

I'd leave the back as-is, then do away with all the chrome on the front!!!! I just don't like chrome I guess!!!!

Aw Dave, how can you not like chrome?! it's such a beautiful thing. Mmmm....that 59' caddy, chrome heaven. I love chrome, that is one of my gripes with new cars, no chrome on them.

Tomorrow Rick's picking up the cut housing and new axels and we're going to throw them in tomorrow night. I was SUPPOSED to reorganize the shop this evening to accomodate the new compressor coming Friday, got all exhausted just planning it out and had to quit!

I have found it much less exhausting if you skip the planning stage, and go right straight to doing it, whatever 'it' is.
