Has some outsider tapped into this site or
I sent Dave Severson my addee and phone number yesterday in a PM and ever since I got home from the Doc's in the afternoon, I'm getting strange calls from some kind of center. They aren't in India, talk more like S. E. Orientals. All kinds of dumb questions and statements, but it is none stop almost all day long. Been going on since 9 AM this morning also. Nothing I say stops them. Hanging up doesn't even deter them, they just call back. I have just turned my ringers off on all three phones and am letting the answering machine get it. Brent, is it possible someone is intercepting the PMs?????? I know darn good and well that Dave hasn't given up my phone number. I can think of no other explanation.Duane S

When they call, ask for their VISA card numbers!!! Turn this into an opportunity!!

Now there's an idea. I am not a big believer in coincidences, so that's why I am wondering if someone has tapped into the PM system.Duane S

Have you got a anti-virus program running? There are some viruses that harvest info from emails....they are
usually trying to collect credit card formats but who knows?

that's weird though that they would be calling you. if it is that constant I would call the phone company, they should be able to trace it and stop it. do you have caller id? do you have a whistle? old m.o. for calls like that was to pick up and as soon as you find out who it is blow a whistle directly into the phone. after a while either their ears will bleed or they'll leave you alone.
I hate that kind of crap, hopefully you get it remedied or they give up.

Yes, Red, I run Norton anti-virus and also have Zone Alarms Spyware. The only place I've stated my phone number in the last two months was in a PM here through CHR. Oh, well. As far as I can tell they don't even care about the National No Call list either. Wierd people making wierd calls.Duane S

The advice about a whistle made me laugh. I get those kind of calls every now and then, and I give my best dog-calling whistle blast into the phone. It hurts MY ears when I let go like that! They seem to lose interest in me after one of those.

I didn't think of calling the phone company. I'll try that in the morning.
The weird thing is I am on the National Do Not Call list and hadn't been bothered by telemarketers for ever. Then I send my phone number through a PM here at CHR early in the morning and the same afternoon the calls started. They just keep coming.
The weirdest part is they seem to think I am a robot or something as silly cause of my electronic voice and I think that is why the calls just keep coming.
Maybe I'll go to Atlantic tomorrow in the hot afternoon (got to get some work down in the morning when it's cool ) and get a whistle. Got to get a new high beam indicator for my new gauge panel anyway.Duane S

I just reregistered my phone on the National Do Not Call list. Lets see if that gets their attention. Although I thought it should have told me it was already there. Any way the new one is good until 2012.

Oldf100fordman,This works for me.When they call and ask you if its your name like most of them do. I just tell them that he was arrested this morning for murder. They usually hang up right then and there and never call back. Its pretty funny,as one of my friends kept getting these calls and I just happened to walk into one of them. When he said that I almost fell over Laughing. But it does work.Try it.George

Here try this. It it on there then remove it. I did mine.
Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit MapQuest, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book.
If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.
Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the mapquest and directions straight to our house. I did fill out the removal form for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary.
Please look up your own number.
In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to www.google.com Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48-hours.

It doesn't work if your number is unlisted through the phone company, I just tried mine. I like the murder arrest idea, might try that. I get surprisingly few calls like that. in fact, I get few calls period on the home phone. most of my friends call my cell.

Well, I'll be go to 7734. Typed in my step daughter's number and sure enough not only her address but got the map right to my old house in Bonney Lake, Wa.
I realized last night after I re-registered my number on "do not call" that it was 2002 when I did it the first time about this time (30th of July). So it must have come off last Monday. So maybe I saved a lot of hassle by redoing it last night.Duane S

Google
Racecar100, thanks for that info. Pulled my wife's and my name and address up with the phone number. At least the map was incorrect. This type of thing is invasive and wrong!305 ci Y-block in 46 1/2 ton

I think what really torqued me off about these calls was one of the first callers said "Are you a robo". I couldn't figure out what he was saying. Then it was like he passed around my number to everyone working in that sweat shop.
One phone call after another, none stop and each time a different person, a different gender. I finally figure out they thought I was some kind of a robot (due to my Laryngeticomy and my electronic voice).
One clown even seemed to dyne that I was gifted with magic powers and would start asking me when he was going to get married. Like I said, weird calls.
So even after I started letting the answering machine get it they'd keep calling just to hear my voice. It went on all daytime Tuesday. At one point there 38 calls on my answering machine and I had deleting them every couple of hours.
Today has been quiet and I believe my problem was an expiration of my original "no call" time frame. Since re entering I've not got one phone call.Last edited by Oldf100fordman; 08-01-2007 at 10:10 AM.
