48 Chevy Coupe
Well as most of you guys know, I have a 48 Chevy Coupe (first car or vehicle I ever bought about 4 years ago I think). Anyways, recently I was given a 94 S10 Blazer 4 dr 4x4 with a screwed up title. I tried to get the title straightened out but I can't. The title is still in the original owners name and it's been written on and crossed out probably 2 or 3 times if I remember correctly. So here is what I was wondering... What can I use off this thing for my 48 Chevy coupe? The engine is the 4.3 Vortec with the MFI spider injection and the overdrive transmission. The interior is very nice on this thing. The fenders in the front, the rockers, tailgate door, and doors are completely rusted out so I figured instead of trying to keep on with the title I'd rip it apart and junk the body for scrap. The thing is actually very nice and could get junkyard doors easily but I dont have time for that. The glass, interior, chassis and such are all very nice and I even drove it home about 45 minutes away or more and it did fine besides a leaky steering pump. The engine was supposedly rebuilt with about only 1000 miles on it. If I were to fix up the 48 I wanted a 350 in it with overdrive but maybe this 4.3 will push it along ok?
Any idea's or info would be appreciated here! And like I said, it's a 4x4 so I don't know if I can use the transmission or not? The front end is a 79 Z28 camaro sub frame on this car as well (the 48 I mean).
Thanks!www.streamlineautocare.com

What's the 8th digit in the VIN. If it's a "W", it's a nice choice especially for a stock motor. If it's a "Z" digit, it could use a little help in the power department but affordably done for your Rod.What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

I am almost positive it's a W because of the Vortec MFI spider injection it has not the throttle body. If I used it then I'd definetely put in a cam, headers and a few other things to get power and dress it up. I am guessing I can use it along with the whole wiring hardness, even use the interior parts too huh?
I can always switch the motor if I dont like it but how would it push the heavy coupe along?www.streamlineautocare.com

Considering that the '48 came with an inline 6 I think the 4.3 would move it along fairly well. Won't rotate the earth, but make for a decent cruiser.Ken Thomas

The "W" motor was rated between 200 and 220 hp. The 220 was with the CPI system (What you call the spider) and the 200 was the TBI unit with 500cfm body. Cam specs are 277 int adv duration, 274 exh adv duration. Valve lift is .432" int, .440" exh. LSA @ 118. 050 duration for both int and exhaust are .208. It does run very well in this stock trim especially with the later model Vortec heads. Flow was improved slightly in these heads to give it a bit more umph. What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

Hard to beat that V8 sound though, but the milage would be nice. The chasis are nice too, a friend just put a 40 ford coupe on one and it worked nicely."Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"

My 48 Chevy chassis now is stock wiht the 79 Z28 Camaro front sub frame on it. I have it with small block mounts now but heck I don't know what to do. I'd rather have a V8 but this thing has the 700r4 overdrive I am thinking it is the 700 and it has cruise control (can I use the steering column?) nice fuel injected motor so better gas and more reliable. It has all the A/c stuff too but I guess I can't use any of that.
I don't know, it's either this or I sell the 48 and Blazer both because I have my 46 Chrysler and 66 F100 that I need to focus on and I will never have the money to buy a 350 motor and a transmission for it, etc and then put money into the 66 and 46. Just too many. Then again, I don't want to do this 4.3 and put it in and it have problems because of whoever built it didn't do a good job and also like you guys said, it wont have that V8 sound or power.www.streamlineautocare.com

You might have to change out the evaporator but that shouldn't be too big of a deal. I'll bet with a little massaging the steering column would work also.Ken Thomas

FMX you could allways sell the 4.3 and use funds toward a V8. If you can keep it do so if you have the room . Really regret selling a few of mine .

I found another guy that is going to look at the title for me tomarrow and see if he can fix it. If so then I will keep the blazer and drive it for a while and work on my 66 and 46 and when those are reliable enough to drive then I will sell the Blazer. The 85 Chevy truck and 66 are my daily drivers and they both need work so while I drive the Blazer I can tear one down and work on it and paint it inside and out like I want and still have a daily drive. I'd love to have a 4x4 but if I did then I'd want a S10 or a Ford Ranger with the 4.0, extended cab and 4x4 with the baja or prerunner cut fenders on it. I really have too many vehicles as it is so one or two of them will have to go once I get two on the road.www.streamlineautocare.com

you could simply apply for title for abandoned vehicle..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

How would that work for a vehicle that new though? I would like to keep the blazer for a daily driver for a while so I can tear my current daily drive down that I use now to paint it and put a new crate motor in it but I don't know... Everything is on hold right now since I just quit my job Friday so I have NO money comming in and bills to pay. I just dont have time to mess with it right now and maybe just end up selling it along with my 48 and 85 if things don't get better. I guess it's all on hold for now, but then again my daily driver (85 Chevy C10) is about to die on me soon. Alternator is getting loud and not putting out enough (started that last night), need a new water pump I think soon, needs an alignment badly, needs all new tires and balanced, it's burning 20w50 oil like it's water... List goes on.
Anyways, how would I go about the title as an abandoned vehicle?www.streamlineautocare.com

Boxster, that's one sweet looking Chebby. I like the stock style door and window handles, too. Looks like you made a great trade.Duane S

Thank you. I really do like this car. It is growing on me. Never thought I would own a Chevy.
Here is the Ford I traded.
Getting closer on this project. What a lot of work!
