beer keg gas tanks
Has anyone ever used a beer keg as a gas tank? Hows it done? I dont remember ever seeing one, but I must have heard about it somewhere. I think it would be great in the bed of my truck!

I have one its a great idea not sure about dot or anything but I have managed to salvaged three nice anheiser busch aluminum ones they have a wood plug on the side you can knock out to empty and either use to mount a filler or a sending unit they also have the part where the tapper mounts thats held in with a wire ring also easily removed. I am planning to polish one up and mount it in the bed of my truck when its done not sure if I will actually use it for gas or just show yet.like a volvo with gun racks.....

I used a beer keg in the back of my 52 ford pickup. I had a bung welded on by a guy who worked alluminum, the other holes capped and had a late 70's jaguar flip top gas cap riveted on. Outside of the fact the keg i used had several dents the only problem i had was the constant splashing sound in the tank. I never set it up for any type of fuel gauge, instead i had a stainless rod i kept under the seat. The flathead seized up on me when i punctured the radiator and my uncle, the one who gave me the keg, begged it off me for to use on his case tractor."its better to rule in hell, than serve in heaven."

Stevet47 I will get you some pics soon, hey if you do decide your moving the tank out of the cab let me know I have a few extra kegs I will try and post some pics of them probly could ship it to you for the shipping since they aren't doing anyone any good sitting in the snow collecting water and I have caught hell every swap meet I have tried to sell them at, from one 67 c10 owner to anotherlike a volvo with gun racks.....

Used to be real popular, need to put some baffles or maybe some fuel cell foam in them to control the slosh.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I once bult a VW sandrail and I used a freon tank for the gas tank. It was nice because (with VW small engines) I was able to remove the fuel pump and used just gravity feed from the tank. Now, I may get flamed here for what I did but.. someone else welded it (same guy that welded the frame kit) so safety was not my issue (he had done others). I am not recommending it but this thread just brought back the memory to share.

I had one on my sand rail dune buggy. I found a old 16 gal bud keg and had some welding done on it. the best place to get something like this welded is go to a semi tractor TRAILER place. Like Utility, Great Dane, and such. Alot of trailers are aluminum and these people know how to weld it. Have them tap and dye a hole for the sending unit and any return lines that are needed. Just a idea to try.

I used an 8 gal. pony keg in my 40 panel truck back in the 70's. When I first built the truck I had a Hilborn injected 331 sbc in it. I had a regular tank in the back with electric fuel pump to the keg in front of the radiator. Then hooked the belt drive fuel pump to the keg. Worked great, but probably not a very good idea to have a fuel tank hanging in front of the radiator on a street vehicle. Looked cool at rod runs. Mechanical injection wasn't very practical for street use, so replaced the injection and Keg w/carb .
Thought I had pic. of "Keg" installation, but this is all I could find.

slosh stoper?
My uncle had the same problem "with slosh " on his fancy little dune buggy, We ended up building "something like this"
forgive my drawing but you get the idea?
The red is the holes We drilled in it and saddles in the bottom. We cut a flap in the back to get this monstrosity in. Mounted it as low as we could, then had it all put back together.
"his is some kind of keg ? "
Now its polished & what little of it you can see "in the back" its not noticeable. "hope that helps?"
also he used steel straps to hold it down, And put wide leather belts w/ buckles over them " looks pretty cool "
"I don't know about the safety issue? "
can anybody explain more about the safty of this???????"Whad'ya want for nuth'N, ..............aaa,rrrrrubber biscuit... ?"

If your wondering how I'm doing I'm > " I'm still pick'N up the shinny stuff and passing open windows "
