    Its home

I went thru a tornado in Lansing , Mi to get this so it better be worth it . LOL
Storming like all get out allmost the whole trip last night. Well the original 4 spd is with it as the shifter its opened up and a part . Looks like i'm going to learn a rebuild of one .

Also it has a 6K tach nice find for any Mustang . When i was looking this over i noticed it was loose so i pulled instrument panel out and behind it was a factory ok tag .

The owner purchased this car in Sept of 1983 and it went in garage for restore in 1987 . Importatly the floor is solid as with the cowls . The rails are solid i will only be replacing the very rear section on rears. Deck lid and hood has rust with the notorious 1/4 rust

Check out pic of alum M/T valve covers it has a HP 427 on one end with the Ford logo in the small circle on the other end . You experienced Ford guys know these covers .

The lengths we rodders go through to get our cars!!! We don't care if a tornado or hurricane is right overhead, we gotta get that tin.

Nice to see someone get this car and want to bring it back to life........certainly deserves it. It is also cool that it is an original BB car. Have fun Bobby.

Damn the torpedos (uh, er, uh Tornados) full speed ahead,

Glad you got it home, Bobby. Looks like a great find since the 4spd is there with shifter and just needs a rebuild. Lots of places for parts for these. Did you get a 4 barrel manifold with it too?

Get her done. I'd love to hear it run someday.

Denny how do we change spark plugs ? Raise the engine . Your right again no room anywhere with the headers taking up all the lower space .

Glad to hear it was all worth the trip. That version of the MT covers are pretty desireable. Sparkplugs with headers are always a challange. Another trick is use a piece of fuel line hose. You stick the plug in the end and use the hose as a flexline sorta deal. Worth a try anyway. That and a good universal socket like Denny mentioned. I've had mine close to 30 years. Welcome to the FE club.

Duane the manifold is with it and geez they are heavy . These wide bodys need bigger arms then i have . It should run now with some fresh fuel , Well lets say it was running good last time it was shut off . I will get a batt and freshen oil up to top and give it whirl tommorrow if there is no storms LOL had enough of them .

FFR what is the meaning of HP427 ?? Talked with a guy said spinning them at 5K to 5500K is about the safest you can do . I like the look of the chrome from stock ones still on the fulcrum on what will look good . if there on this they have to be from way back when i had thicker hair .

That's the way we did it on my friend's 67 390 Cougar back in 68. Otherwise it was take the mounts loose time. Big pain in posterior.

The HP427 I'd have to guess is high performance 427. As for the exact year they came out I'm not sure. Mickey Thompson has been around FE parts since the the very early 60's. Those are hard to find and they are one of the few parts unauthorised to use the Ford script and oval. And get away with it. Plus they have not been butchered with vents or pcv which most are. You can get the chrome "power by ford" VC's on ebay as repops for $160. Original sets are a little more with nice chrome. The chrome GT dressup package included the air cleaner lid, VC's and the oil dipstick. 67 did not use the snorkle just a round aircleaner with mesh vents on the side. So if your car came with one hang onto it. Even if you don't use it they only go up in value. I should mention the std 390 didn't have the GT dressup package and just used painted parts where the chome would be. But lots of guys add them as they do look nice. I'm far from a "numbers correct" guy as they get and use what I like and think will look and run good.

Maybe it's me but I've never really had a problem changing plugs? You can't see what your doing and do contort you hands and arms in ways they were not meant to. But never had to as far as drilling holes to get art them. Both with headers or stock manifolds.

That's just because Bob and I were big clumsy oafs. But it did save a lot of time. He took it to the Mercury dealer to have new plugs put in and they wanted to charge an exorbinate price because they had to loosen the mounts and jack up the motor one side at a time. (This was in San Diego) We read in some magazine about doing the hole thing and decided that was the way to go. Worked for us.

Neat Horse, Bobby!!!! Should be a really fun build, take a zillion pics and document everything you do as it really helps the value at resale time... Get all the history you can on previous owners and stuff, too.
