Thread: got carpet for my '51 Chevy

I went to lowes for somthing with my mom, yesterday, ended up looking at there carpet, found 1 that I liked, medium cut pile, almost pure white ( the purest white carpet that wasn't $$$$$$ ). they didn't have the right purple, so I had to go white, to match the interior. to get an idea, on price, I asked as it was special order, turns out they are running a 20% off sale on all special order carpeting until monday, so I just had to get it to save money, my cost was like $80 with tax. I got 12'X 8'. comes in the 10th. JC whitney wants over $100 for non fitted carpet, and they don't have white. could have gotten marine grade from a boat place down the road, but I think the house grade will be ok

and now you're going to need a steamer to form it over the tunnel, some backing glued to the carpet, and a whole lot of patience to make it fit!!!!! Don't know about the old chebbies, but the carpet for my pickup came molded, sewn edges, cut to fit, with the small pieces for the bottom of the doors for $128.00. The fit is perfect, and it has a jute back with a 1/2" thick pad glued to it!!! Fitting plain old house carpet around the tunnel, in the footwells and up the firewall is near impossible to do without some special equipment!!!!

the old chevys do not have much hump

it shouldn't be hard to fit at all, the carpet is fairly pliable, and the hump only comes up maby 4" or so, the firewall is a fairly steep angle but it should work out, cause the hump isn't very tall. have a steamer. I looked for white carpet thru most auto suppliers, none had white.

Some steam and some type of weight should help in the molding process. The stackable weights from a workout station is a thought .

or some sand bags i think you will be ok i would run the floor up to were it runs up hill under your pedals by the fire wall and cut and glue it there

can't glue it on the drivers side, need access to the M/C access door,

You can make a sewn patch like the rods . a little handy stich work will be fine . I dont know to much about thimbles but with thick material i would use one .

the steam and weights work good,if u lay the carpet a inch or two higher on the hump its easier to lay the rest of the wall also.
