Hi Ken. I only found this thread a couple of months ago and have been checking in on it occasionally. After watching your build thread on the roadster, I knew this would be a good one, too. This morning I finally got an opportunity to go back and look at some of the early posts; I was surprised to see that you started this project back in 2007. While reading all those posts on your roadster thread, I had no idea that this project was also under way... DUH! Anyway, beautiful work.
Also, there is an old saying that "great minds think alike". I'm not sure that I have anything close to a "great mind", but it's interesting to me that you and I had the same solution to a similar problem: How do you channel a car half way over the frame without really channeling it?.. Answer: Remove the top half of the frame rail. You removed the top portion of the rails of a Deuce frame and I built my coupe's frame from scratch out of 2" x 3" rectangular tubing, but the end result is the same. Both of them were built before we got acquainted on this forum and we're on opposite coasts 3,000 miles apart... Cool!Jim

The nice thing about seeing updates like this one is that we get a glimpse into how steel can be turned into such intricate pieces of machinery. That steering setup is amazing, looks like some major company with a staff of engineers should have built it. So glad to see your progress, Ken.
Like Jim, I got involved reading about your roadster projects and forgot all about this second pick up, until you mentioned it recently. I was just rereading a Street Rodder Magazine the other night and your other pick up was featured in there.............it was cool to say "I know this guy!".

Fantastic piece of engineering on the steering Ken, very cool. Is that one of your cars ('30 sedan) on the cover of this years coker tire catalog?"Sunshine, a street rod and a winding beautiful Ozarks road is truely Bliss!"

Ken,
You are a very talented detailed orientated artist. You make something so complicated look so easy. You give such a good description and pictures of what you are working on. Your ability is so far over my head I can only enjoy looking at your work. One day I may be able to use something that you post on one of my projects so I’ll keep reading as long as you keep posting. There are so many talented guys on this site giving away so much of their time and wiliness to help it is really the best site on the Internet.
Thanks for taking the time to post for free what alot of people get paid to put in books.

Dave - Thanks, I just hope I have the ratios figured correctly, or else I will have the worlds biggest go cart It's supposed to come out to 16:1 so it's like power steering.
roadster32 - Thank You, It was the only way I could think of to keep the steering box out of the way inside the car, and keep the bump steer under control.
Jim - If you look at my first truck build I did on here, It's the same also and my new truck is the same. It's just a good way to get 3" of head room back.
That's pretty funny, I wonder how many other people have done this?
Thank you, I'm glad you like the build, I enjoy yours also.
Don - You are so generous with your compliments. Thank You, I still think it would be nice to see your shop and projects in Street Rodder
brickman - Thanks, no that's not mine.
Richard - Thank you and you are welcome. As long as somebody is interested in this stuff I will keep posting it. You are right there is a lot of talent here, I also enjoy reading everyones builds. I know I miss a lot of them but I try to keep current.

Ken very slick the way it looks. Like Don said it looks like something that is made for sale by a professional company.
How is the other truck coming along and the Ardon engine?" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Steve, I went to Pep Boys to buy one but they didn't have one
The new truck is close to staring the build. I have been goofing around on figuring the frame out for a year. I'm going to make the complete frame from scratch, I sent the drawings to the Lazar cutter last week. I hope to get the parts back this week. When I get them I think I will start a new build thread for the truck. Thanks for asking.

Ken, when you start your new frame I'm going to copy and paste it to my 39 Chevy truck.I'm going to put the cab on something or one of us is going to get carried away.
I think the chances are better on be being carried away if I don't get away from the computer.

I got the steering box done, and bolted it in. Everything lines up and it looks like 2 1/2 turns to put the wheels lock to lock, that's what I was hoping for.

It looks awesome even if I don't understand it; you are part genius, part engineer. I wish I could have the talent. I can just say it looks great, maybe down the line when you post more picture I'll get an understanding but until then. Good job.

Ken,
That is some beautiful work as always. BTW, is using a DTI to prop up your work (08-07 post) for the photos one of your trade secrets? It looks like it has been around awhile.
Jack.
