    Everybody think hard

I decided to change the look of the Mustang with new tires and wheels and now have a problem trying to find center caps for the right look. The stock bullet push-on caps are atrocious but the center bore is 3.125 and I can't find what I'm looking for. I'm going for the old Halibrand, s/s look, so I need some flat faced caps that stick out from the wheel as little as possible. I need somehting like the bases in this pic that will go behind the wheel, around the lug nuts, and up through the bore (no, not with the spinners). I remember seeing them in the old days, but don't know who (if anyone) has them now.

I'm going to do what we did in the 60's until I find them... no cap on the rear, and a chrome grease cap on the front hub. I sold the roadster, so it's back on this one.... more hp, different look.
    Help!

You might take a look at J C Whitney, but I think most of their stuff is plastic.

JC WHitney was the first place I looked, but they don't carry alot of the oddball cheap crap they used to. I've been contemplating turning a set, but that'd be the last resort. I found an aluminum Mickey Thonpson cap that (on paper) should be what I'm looking for. I ordered one to fit it and see how it looks. Worst case, I run the chrome grease caps on the front and detail the hubs and axle ends.
Once I get the cap deal sorted out, I've got to figure out what's wrong with the proportions and the stance. I can either go smaller tires on the front, or bigger tires on the rear. The wife is thrilled with me buying more tires for the car when these only have about 5 miles on them.
