brake booster for 48 ford f1
Hi
I'm now starting the brake conversion on the 48 ford truck project. I just got the brake booster from the last owner who thought he lost it. Lucky me he found it. It goes with the front wheel disk brake conversion kit from performance products. The motor in the truck is a 460. So after I get this beast installed, where can I tap into a vacuum soure? 2) I'm also looking into putting a heating and possibly a cooling system in the cab, as there are none now. Any ideas as to what to use(it's 12 volts now) Any stock systems that will go with the interior of the cab? Thanks, Steve." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

vacuum
Thanks Ed
My 460 has a bunch of vacuum line around the carb and distributor that all seem connected, but there is a big hose with a bolt in it coming off the back of the intake manifold. I'll see what lies there first, and then check out the carb. Your picture of a truck looks quite similar to mine but cleaner! Have you ever converter brakes over to a power booster and if so, what modifications to the brake lines did you need to make?" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

What a great group, we all have trucks of the same vintage. We are in the process of installing power brakes as well (probably going to finish this weekend) we are going to tap into the carburetor for ours, the Holley we are using (still have to put that on there) has a port in the back that will work out great for us. we do have a port on the manifold too, but are going to the carb.
What did both of you use for the steering box? we have a 429 in our 51 and just mounted up a toyota steering box, which is cool, but now the headers don't fit and I am going to have to have Sanderson make me up a set it looks like.

vacuum lines
I guess todays project is to get a vacuum line, then expore the underbelly of this beast. To answer Red, I'm stock in the steering department for now, until I can drive it and see how well the stock setup works. This is my first rod project, prior to this I restored a 1968 Mustang back to stock, and a 1968 BMW 1800(what a pain that was) The positive side is I'm 25years older and have a good job to finance this, the negative side is I'm 25 years older and it takes a few motrin at the end of the day to ease the sore joints and muscles!
Keep in touch on the trucks, and as I dig into the brakes I'll be asking for advice I'm sure. Steve" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Hey guys, I'm going to get pics up later that show the steering box in place and how tight it is for us. Any chance either of you could post pics of what you have done for the gas and brake pedals? our brake pedal is pretty much where i it is going to be positioned, except I'm going to cut the shaft and drop it down towards the floor for a better angle for the foot. the problem is the gas pedal, that sucker is just awkward wherever we have tried maching it so far. I don't want it too far out from the firewall so you have to hold your foot at a weird angle the whole time you drive.
thanks.

gas pedal
My gas pedal is a cable job, that two owners ago, slapped onto the floor. I'll send a pic tomarrow, it looks messy and will be hard to cover up. As for my steering, it's the original ford f1 box for now. Lots of clearance, little control! Steve." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

jerry rigged pedal
Red here are several shots of the gas pedal that was already in the truck when I bought it. It is a cable system through the fire wall, it seems to work pretty well, but I cringe at the thought of the cable breaking while I'm getting on the highway! I can't figure out how to upload an image from my pc to this dialog, it keeps asking for a url address, the photos are on my hard drive. If you give me your email address I'll mail them to you, meanwhile if Don has an easier way to load a picture, please do tell. Steve." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

I sent you a pm with my email address, thanks very much. Sanderson is sending me some pipes to try out as far as fitting up a header setup. I am also looking to see what is available as far as manifolds. ah the joys of shoe horning a big block into a little space.
