What Was Your First Big Block Car ?
My first Big Block car was a 1969 Pontiac firebird . It started out as a 350 2 BBL TH350 308 open 10 Bolt car . But not long after buying it I took a trip to the junk yard . There I found a 1971 Grandville with a 455 330hp engine . $400.00 dollers later I was the owner of that 455 . One week later and the big block was sitting in the 69 firebird . I ran the 455 with a stock dual exhaust a GTO intake and Q Jet . Points dist with curve kit Accel wires and coil . The first time I went around the block in that car I could feel a big difference from the old 350 ! And when I took this car to the strip the next week . Man with no headers TH350 open 308 rear end and still ran low 14teens . And thats burning that right rear street tire all the way down the track . And on the street at a roll that car was never beat . What was your first Big Block car ?

My first was a 66 Plymouth Fury III Sport with a 440/375 hp. Second was a 69 Barracuda Formula S with a 383/330 hp, later replaced with a 426 Hemi. Most recent one is my 57 Olds. 371 big block with the J2. Love the sound and ooomph of a big block. Not crazy about the usual mpg.Bob

Oddly enough, I've come full circle.
My first car ever was a 1969 Roadrunner Convertible with a 383.
I recently picked up my 4th Roadrunner, a '68 but this will be my first ever 4 speed big block car!

aint had one yet, probably never will, the stuff just costs to much. but someday id love to build a 427 bbc with a tunnel ram and stuff it into the vega, or even a 55 chevy although and ls6 454 would also do nicely to bad BJ syndrome has made all of that, completely unnattainable. its gotten so bad here guys are taking 010 350's decking them and stamping them DZ thats just one case i could tell of more treachery!Last edited by gassersrule_196; 11-30-2007 at 01:41 PM.

66 Corvette, 427-4speed roadster! I graduated highschool in '84 and left for Navy Bootcamp 12 days later. Graduated from there and left for Sardegna, Italy. Was there for 12 months, came home on leave and found the car in the paper for $8000. w/a 350 in it (august of 85, just before the prices started to go thru the roof!!!!). Went to look at it and fell in love, got it for $7100!!). Started researching and found out it had been a 390 hp 427 car. Had the correct trans and rearend and was in decent condition. (I actually drove it for 4 years after I got back from Italy and did NOTHING to it. Started a ground-up resto and found a '69 L-88 (yeah, a REAL L-88... 560 HP!!! ) in a 64 Impala that a friend of a friend had in his old drag car. Cut a deal to buy it (for $650!!!!!! ) and when I redid the car, that was in it. Sold the car in 94 for $11,500 + a 71 Nova Prostreet car with a 400hop smallblock in it...Not BAD!!!! But GOD do I miss that car!!!!! 'Puter crashed a month or so back and lost a bunch of pix, but I will post a few of it after I get some scanned again. If its not worth doing right, its not worth doing... When I was 19, a friend told me about an original 409 2X4 '62 Biscayne that had been traded in a a small dealership. It was in perfect condition, and red with a red interior, but the original engine was replaced by a built 327. I bought the car, and found another 409-409 engine. I swapped it back into the '62, along with a Z11 cam, slicks and a 4:11 posi, and had an absolute ball with it!

If Oldsmobiles count, I had several cars in the '60's with 303-394's in them. None of the bodies were Olds, but we swapped Oldsmobile V8's into a few Fords and even a Rambler Station Wagon.
My first production car with a big block was a brand new tripower GTO I bought in '66.

Oh, forgot about the '51 Chrysler Hemi car I had with a fluid drive tranny. (cross between a stick shift and automatic.) I blew the clutch out after one night doing burnouts.
